About Simone Spray

I have a track record of taking a co-creation approach to designing, developing, commissioning, implementing, evaluating and mainstreaming innovative, evidence- based programmes with children, families, young people and communities. I have led local and national multi-disciplinary, cross-sector teams that have delivered high quality outcomes and impact and have driven change across health, social care, education and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sectors. I am skilled at developing integrated programmes with agile business and financial models. Successes have included :1. Bringing partners together from across the statutory Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Local Authority Social Care teams, and locality VCSEs organisations to find integrated commissioned solutions to respond to national targets e.g Crisis Care, mentally healthy schools and colleges (national trailblazer) and Local Transformation Planning.2. Scaling the evidence based parenting programme (FAST) in partnership with Middlesex University and 2 national corporate partners across the UK,3. Completing a merger and co-developing a sustainable business and fundraising plan for Keep Britain Tidy as national funding was reduced by over £8M over 2 years.4. Integrating high quality creative approaches in mental health and well-being support by commissioning professional artists to work with young people to co-create public facing exhibitions and performances that challenge stigma, raise awareness, increase inclusion and improve well-being and mental health (via our Creative venue and programme - The Horsfall) My role as CE at 42nd Street has enabled me to invest my expertise into leading an award winning Greater Manchester mental health charity recognised for delivering local impact with national significance and for championing genuinely young person-centred approaches that increase opportunities for young people to shape their own care and influence change. For the past two years I have also been the Greater Manchester Mental Health VCSE sponsor, leading beyond my organisation to support the positioning of the VCSE sector in commissioning cycles and decision-making, local to devolved governance and increasing equitable strategic influence. I was one of the co-authors of the Memorandum of Understanding agreed between the VCSE sector and the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership and I continue to be an active member of the Greater Manchester VCSEs Leaders Group with a lead for mental health and well-being.

I lead a respected, trusted and inspiring young people's mental health charity in Greater Manchester. We champion young person-centred approaches that promote choice and creativity, including both face-to-face and online counselling, therapy and psycho-social support, therapeutic and identity-based group work, a growing Creative Programme and venue -The Horsfall and a social action programme giving young people a voice locally regionally and nationally. The charity has tripled its income (c£1M to c£5M and staff team (28- 85) over the past 5 years and has supported over 12,500 young people aged 11-25 years in this time. We have also completed some ground-breaking peer support/research projects with research with young black men, the Orthodox Jewish Community, Young Carers, young people within or at the fringes of the care and/or Criminal Justice, isolated and lonely young people, LGBTQ+ young people, young women and university students as part of our commitment to improving inclusion and access for those that often find it the hardest to access support. I am also a passionate advocate for the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector in delivering change across health and social care services; I am determined to ensure that where Greater Manchester makes the most of the opportunities afforded to us by Devolution, we are able to learn from and where possible replicate the lessons nationally and internationally, striving for social justice and improving the long standing inequalities in our health and social care system
