My position at PIFS was funded by the Australian Government’s ‘Australian Volunteers for International Development’ program.My key role was as Ocean Management Officer, in the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner. I contributed to Pacific Ocean-focused planning and coordination efforts and policy research and analysis on ocean-related issues including fisheries management, marine spatial planning, biodiversity conservation, pollution management and deep sea minerals.I also assisted the Commissioner in high level advocacy work to promote issues of key importance to the Pacific region through the development of briefs on ocean issues and reporting on successful outcomes, stakeholder engagement and production of communication materials.In addition to my oceans related work, I also assisted the Forum’s Climate Change Finance Adviser in work relating to the ability of Pacific Island countries to access and use international development funding available to them for the purposes of climate change mitigation and adaptation. -
