Hedgerow Software is a development house that builds proprietary data management applications for field inspections and inspection facilities. Hedgerow’s head office is in Calgary with a US office based in Fresno, California. My role has two direct focuses: the management, maintenance and direction of all in house IT assets and the conversion of existing clients from onsite servers to Azure hosted instances. Hedgerow has a robust VM based server environment with 30+ servers running Windows 2008 – 2016 hosting SQL 2008 – 2016 on Nimble Storage. Remote users connect via VPN and utilize Office 365 and Skype for Business. IT budget, software licensing, partner and vendor management, department hiring and leadership are my responsibilities. This is very much a hands-on role. Hedgerow has a high Azure demand from clients, my role is to create tenants and manage subscriptions, build hosted servers, manage backup, security, and alerting, create databases, migrate data from onsite to cloud via site-to-site VPN.

Opentext Messaging manages Alberta Health Services' Exchange 2007, Symantec Enterprise Vault, and BES 5 and 10 environments. This is the largest Exchange 2007 & Exchange 2010 / Office 365 hybrid environment in Western Canada with 156,000 mailboxes, 47 clustered Exchange 2007 servers, 12 BES 5.0 servers, 3 Blackberry 10 servers, and 8 Enterprise Vault servers. This is a fully clustered environment with 10 Cluster Continuous Replication pairs, 5 Single Copy Cluster groups; load balanced Hub Transport & Client Access Server groups, 2 BES pools and mirrored SQL servers for EV & BES. My role was both hands on and customer facing; I was responsible for the upkeep of all the listed components (and troubleshooting when there were outages), with a primary requirement to maintain solid client relationships with Alberta Health Services stakeholders and to provide leadership and guidance to our junior and intermediate staff. I was responsible for all client communications for all Major Incidents and would report directly to senior management at Alberta Health Services. This is an ITIL environment.

My primary role was as an onsite IT consultant for all of Seltec’s oil and gas industry clients: MEC Oilfield, Phoenix Industrial Maintenance, MaxFuels, Trophybuck Oilfield. All of these clients had multiple offices throughout Western Canada, all were running Windows Server 2003 or 2008, and all were running versions of Exchange Server. I was required to troubleshoot and maintain these networks and to set up new offices and field locations as needed. This was a leadership role and required that I mentor and support junior staff members and take control of escalations. Any downtime was filled by new business generation.

Vermilion Energy is an international oil and gas production company with properties in Western Canada, Australia, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Vermilion's head office is in Calgary with all other offices connecting spoke and hub style via consistent VPN or through Citrix. This is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation, with over 32 locations connecting back to Calgary. The technical environment at Vermilion had 48 servers, and over 400 users. My primary responsibility was to maintain reliable network connectivity and server access and to respond to connection problems or server outages within SLA requirements. My secondary responsibility was to troubleshoot all oil and gas applications. The rest of my time was spent hardening network security, researching and testing new products, building and troubleshooting PCs and laptops, installing applications and helping end users.

The Municipal District of Opportunity #17 is the regional government for the second largest MD in Alberta. At my time of employment, the MD 17 served 6 communities in total. The IT Department was responsible for all servers and workstations, communications (network, telecom, wireless and RF), business function and security for all buildings operated by the MD. This included, but was limited to: main and satellite offices, recreational centers, youth centers, community halls, daycares, medical clinics, RCMP detachments, water treatment plants, and municipal shops for each community. High speed enabled communities were connected to the main office in Wabasca via consistent VPN and by wireless point to point towers. I was responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all IT systems, staffing the department, all IT projects, reporting to management and Council, running my budget, and ordering of equipment.

My job was to oversee all technical responsibilities for concerts and business events. My other roles included: event management, lead generation and sales, network administration and onsite connectivity, as well as web administration.This position was very “hands on” and required that I be able to perform all aspects of any IT requirements as well as to delegate effectively to other staff.

I was responsible for operations and sales (for new and existing clients) for the Victoria office. This included all Oracle relations and sales including staffing, and set-up for the only Oracle University Approved Center on Vancouver Island. I was the Project Lead for customized Windows 2000 training for the BC Government, directing all technical writing and course delivery for a three-year $600,000 contract. In our Vancouver office, I was the network administrator (NT, Novell) and provided instruction for technology and desktop application classes.
