We are FPAL accredited (Achilles) for Oil & Gas, RISQS accredited (audited) for Rail, and ISO 9001:2015 accredited.My role at WJF Technical Support is constantly changing which is one of the many reasons I am still involved with the company, many years after walking through the door for the first time in 2003.Initially, my role was narrowly focused on the financial side of the business. My regular duties involved producing detailed costings, monthly figures and cash flow projections as well as running the company payroll. The tasks required extensive use of Microsoft and Sage accountancy software and I have been on various training courses to improve my skills in these areas. We now use Quickbooks so, needless to say, I have now become familiar with, and skilled at using, this accounting package as well.I am responsible for maintaining and retaining our ISO 9001 and RISQS accreditation. This involves a considerable amount of procedural analysis which, when coupled with detailed record keeping, ensures that we continually perform to a high standard.I never envisaged becoming heavily involved in engineer recruitment, but this has become a major part of my working focus. There was a time when the operational aspects of the business were something that happened around me: this has all changed. I am now continually involved in the decision making processes and dealing with the constant challenges that present themselves with regard to engineer placement, work generation and personnel issues.My varied and ever expanding role at WJF Technical Support has allowed me to develop new skills as well as further enhancing existing ones. Helping to shape the dynamic environment surrounding the company, and seeing it flourish and prosper, is what motivates me to continue to improve.

I worked, on a part-time basis, as a Finance Manager at a very dynamic, fast paced digital marketing company in Manchester.Working here further developed my interest in the cyber world even though it quickly became apparent that I didn’t know just how much I didn’t know. The tech-savvy, creative environment was a revelation and I learned so much about up-coming programme developments, project management and how quickly the newest thing becomes outdated in this ever-changing, volatile business sector.I was incredibly fortunate to become part of the team at Tecmark, and my job was to keep the financial side of the business updated, analysed, and compliant.

The decision to start my own bookkeeping and business support company may have been forced on me by circumstance, but I genuinely had no idea how steep the learning curve I was about to embark on was going to be.I was suddenly exposed to the world of generating and maintaining my own customer base, and it took a lot of time outside my comfort zone to grow the business to a sustainable level.Working with a large number of varying customers allowed me to further develop and hone my skills; every company has different policies, procedures and practices and I had to adapt my way of working to new environments. Thankfully, I was able to adjust my business model as things progressed and I eventually closed the business down when I began working full-time at WJF Technical Support (one of my first customers), where I remain some 13 years later.

Prior to commencing nursing training, I had worked in numerous financial and accounts departments and had acquired good computer knowledge and gained experience using the various components of Microsoft Office. This led to me working part-time at a local engineering company who, as they became more successful, expanded their workforce and customer base and invited me to work with them on a permanent basis. At the time I viewed this as a good opportunity to acquire more accountancy based knowledge, as I loved working with numbers, and I went on numerous Sage system courses that allowed me to become proficient in the use of their Line 50 and payroll packages. I developed the skills necessary to prepare accounts to Trial Balance level and produce accurate monthly management reports.The role also required in-depth project costing and analysis, and the development of many office procedures to ensure that the administration, and financial aspects of the business could be closely scrutinised in respect of their performance.In the end, I was made redundant which led me to make the decision to start my own business.

Following on from an intensive 3 years of training at the RMN School at Queens Park Hospital in Blackburn, I qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1994. I was extremely fortunate to have my first nursing placement on a Rehab ward, as rehabilitation and resettlement became an area of nursing that inspired and motivated me. I was involved in some great community based projects and worked within some fabulous teams of health care professionals.The complexity of the tasks undertaken taught me the importance of constantly updating my knowledge base and to always be analytical about work based practices.I gained several promotions and was the Acting Ward Manager at a Rehabilitation Unit when I left to pursue a very different career opportunity.
