About Simone M.

PERSONAL COMMITTMENT:Encouraged by my Mum the head nurse of 'elder care' at a Mental health facility in New Zealand, my journey in this segment began in 1987 as an 18-year-old Nurse Aid. Four years later I had completed my RN Training having been inspired by my Mum and the positive difference I could make in people's lives, through the simple attitude of giving a damn.Later, helping my parents to accomplish their dream of operating their own small, aged care facility and gaining first-hand experience in the challenges faced by both providers and consumers of aged care alike, I knew then this was a healthcare segment I would always feel very connected with despite my move away from Nursing into the wider world of Healthcare Sales & Marketing.Fast forward to 2010 and seeing the health decline of my parents as a result of Dementia (Mum, Alzheimer's and Dad, Vascular) was my opportunity to give back to my parents the care and support that they had given to so many before them and their move from NZ to Australia so we could live together was underway.Eventually seeing the progression of their Dementia to a level where I could no longer adequately provide the care, they needed to live their best life possible and supporting their transition into Residential Aged Care nearby (Dad 2014 and Mum 2018) was a poignant time in life.All of these events have kept me in healthcare still inspired to make a difference in people’s lives in some way. No matter how small. And whether that be in the hospital or primary care community I vow to continue asking myself, “what else can I do”? to bring continuous improvement and positive change for my customers, and theirs.To be brave enough to always advocate why and how I can help even when there is doubt or pushback.To harness all of my personal and professional experiences to drive conversations that make us think about better ways of doing things.To never give up on making health care a better place to be.
