Working with Learning Possibilities as Project Director for Hwb.Hwb - powered by LP+4 from Learning Possibilities - provides a world class bilingual learning platform for learners and teachers in Wales. Hwb was launched on the 12/12/12 and will be rolled out to schools across Wales starting in spring 2013. Hwb supports social learning and collaboration as well as showcasing the best of Welsh content and learning and teaching practice.

Leading Becta's work on more efficient and effective use of ICT systems for management and to support teaching and learning. In particular, managing Becta's support for the expectation to improve parental engagement through “online reporting”. Over 70% of schools nationally now have this as a priority.As an MSP Advanced Pracitioner I have managed complex programme activity accountable to a wide range of stakeholders – including government departments, suppliers, national agencies, local authorities, unions and representative groups of school leaders and practitioners. The programme has delivered a wide range of tools and resources available freely across the sector to train and support frontline and local authority staff. eg. Leading the development of the national ICT Mark assessment and accreditation scheme. During this period over 1000 schools were assessed and accredited as well as a Naace quality assured network of over 300 education ICT professionals being established to support schools in working towards improved practice and accreditation. The ICT Test Bed was a £34 million DfES project to evaluate the impact of technology on school improvement. As project leader I led a team of 5 project managers following PRINCE2 methodologies in supporting LEA advisors, headteachers and ICT coordinators in the 31 colleges, secondary, primary, special and nursery schools within Sandwell, Durham and Barking and Dagenham LEAs. The project delivered significant improvements in learning and teaching practice, leadership and management of change and communications enabling partnerships between schools, parents and communities.My consultative role included providing expert advice on procurement, in particular working with schools and authorities in developing technical and functional specifications for networks, home access and virtual learning environments (Learning Platforms).Additional roles:Facilitating and embedding change management in schools using approaches from the National Remodelling Team.Managing the grant funding for school led innovation projects. Disseminating lessons learnt; organising departmental workshops to inform policy areas such as workforce remodelling, school design, home access, learning platforms and sustainability Creating TCO based Investment Planning Tools which went on to be used by local authorities, broadband consortium and Partnership for Schools as part of BSF.

IPAS was a dfes pilot project managed by Becta which provided advisory and support services to schools, academies and local authorities in specifying and procuring ICT systems to meet educational needs. A member of CIPS at the time my work with other members of the team was to develop products and resources, including functional and technical specifications to develop the capacity and capability within schools to follow best practice, benefit from economies of scale and achieve best value in procuring ICT systems and managed services. I had responsibility for leading the development and delivery of advisory services within specific local authorities as well as project managing other areas of work such as customer relationship management, research into Total Cost of Ownership of ICT in schools and acting as a Becta advisor for workforce reform, Building Schools for the Future and the ICT Test Bed project.

Providing educational and technical bid support at Group level for outsourcing of local authority services including, school administration and curriculum ICT support services, software support services, internet and email services, advisory services, grants/benefits/allowance services. Designing solutions for the restructuring of these services to provide best value and the reengineering of business processes to fit into the learning society and modernising government agendas. Bid support work included solutions for NGfL (National Grid for Learning) framework contracts and managed services, IT support services for local government, corporate and education services. My main area of responsibility was as project, technical and service manager for the Becta accreditation of NGfL Managed Services. I led the design and development of the managed service systems architecture as well as the integration and business arrangements with third parties. This technical role included the support of administration and curriculum network integration in a number of the authorities supported by Capita.

Developing solutions, partnerships and business relationships with third parties to deliver new business alongside existing and developing channels, in particular managing local authority license agreements for schools with Microsoft and the identification of third party products to be marketed through Capita’s network of regional business centres. The role included establishing business relationships with third party suppliers and supporting technical installation and integration work with the SIMS platform of integrated learning systems, curriculum software and data capture systems.

Teaching: GCSE and A-Level Physics, Technology, ICT, General Science, Chemistry, Mathematics and Music (as well as running school outdoor activity and sailing clubs.)Responsibilities included subject lead for Physics and Electronics; ICT coordinator for the cross curricular use and assessment of ICT.Teaching adult evening classes in beginner to advanced office applications. While at the school I led the development and implementation of a secure, whole school, MIS assessment and reporting database system that transformed the way in which learners progress was monitored and shared between staff and parents. This system assisted teachers in writing reports quickly and efficiently, allowed highlighting of subject progress on a termly basis and tracked and monitored the Individual Education Plans of SEN pupils across all subjects.
