Before joining Vail Williams in 2016 and heading up their national Rating Department, I set up the property company of Bisset Moffatt Hill Chartered Surveyors. There I ran the agency and lease advisory department advising clients both occupier and corporate on their various property portfolios and asset management strategies. Given my breadth of experience across the spectrum of landlord and tenant lease advisory, agency acquisition, business rates and valuation, I have now transferred from the London Business Rates department to the wider remit under the newly created London Occupier Advisory team, effective June 2019.

I am the lead Partner for Business Rates Consultancy at the London office of Vail Williams LLP. Vail Williams acquired the rating agency of Bisset Moffatt Hill in February 2016 in order to combine the specialist rates mitigation expertise of BMH with VW's extensive client base. As a consequence, there are now fully functioning regional rating departments based at various VW offices throughout the UK. They advise local occupiers on how to reduce their commercial business rates and best prepare for the forthcoming 2017 Revaluation. I advise London commercial occupiers on all aspects of empty rate mitigation, MCC appeals, small business rates reliefs as well as historic rate liability auditing. Also, being a general practice surveyor, I am fully qualified to advise occupiers and landlords on general Landlord and Tenant matters such as rent reviews, lease renewals and re-gearing of leases. I have also acquired commercial property and land for owner occupiers in the South East.I am also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (“FRICS”), a member of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (“IRRV”), an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (“ACIArb”) and a Fellow of the Institution of Commercial and Business Agents (“FICBA”). I am also an appointed RICS Quality Assurance Auditor for the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) Governance and Membership, an RICS Appeal Panel adjudicator and a RICS APC Chairman for graduate assessment at interview.

After some 18 years of running BMH with Rod Bisset and Steve Hill, the co founders decided it was time to move the business in a new direction. Vail Williams LLP approached us as they wished to develop their rating expertise in time for Revaluation 2017. This would be our sixth revaluation and it was immediately apparent there was a close alignment of the two businesses that presented a unique set of synergies that if carefully managed, could ensure that the sum of the parts would be greater than the whole. By careful management from the team leaders in both organisations, a smooth integration of our skill set into their organisation looked entirely possible. It was an exciting opportunity that looked good from the outset. So vale BMH, thank you for an excellent 18 years and we look forward to the next chapter of developing rating at VW!
