The company Istrabenz Gorenje, now known as GEN-I was at that time keen and innovative new player on the yet-to-be liberalized Slovene electrical energy market. Being part of a small but very productive and focused team, i was fortunate to lead the implementation of IT system for trading within energy markets (both foreign and local). I reported to the CEO of the company, with clear role of making IT work for the company. Being very IT centric, the business demanded more and more time and resources, for which we eventuelly hired new experts that took over the established IT infrastructure and processes. My next focus was negotiation of possible CIO role within four companies that were closely related to Istrabenz-Gorenje, operating in three countries. Due to fundamental streategic differences between myself and the owners of mentioned companies, the negotiations did not result in establishing the CIO position. Much to my satisfaction, as i was finally able to enjoy the very well earned hollidays :) The year i spent in the company was precious, from the expert point of view, but especially because of the human relationships established. I worked with great coleagues i definitely will be looking forward to work with in the future.

One of the first hardware distribution companies in Slovenia. We did it all, from the parts, to whole computers. Mostly, we supplied components to other VARs and System Integrators in Slovenia, but also did a lot of software and hardware development. Worth mentioning was a special modem used in ATM (bankomat) communicating with bank mainframes. One of the largest projects was development and pilot implementation of the complete Information System for registration of motor vehicles (cars) in ex. Yugoslavian republic of Croatia (AMZH). I actually did most of the development and implementation. It was quite technically advanced at the time, utilizing multitasking, multicomputer networking, both geographically colocated and dislocated.

Middata was at the time following Mikrohit path of a computer hardware supplier for the former Yugoslavia and the Mid-eastern region. I was serving as a customer support guy, so called middleman, between the problems of customers and desires of my bosses. Being at a rather unplesant position, the good side was i got to meet lots of interesting people and since most of the time i was able to solve their problems, although stressful, the position was quite rewarding. Plus it was an expat job, working in a foreign country, which brought the broader perspective along with the responsibilities and travel.

First personal computer company in Slovenia, did all sorts of IT Engineering stuff, from hardware bug fixing to software development (most notable was a complex Information System for government use), sales and technical consultancy. Once a co-worker (university professor), responsible for economics in the company asked me to describe myself business wise and i responded: "young advancing computer expert" :-)

First computer company in Slovenia offered me my first company position - as a junior developer, i was assigned the project of development a Supplier/Sales Ledger software (Saldakonti kupcev in dobaviteljev) for the Partner hardware plattform - a small business computer system that Iskra Delta was manufacturing. I got to know lots of my future co-workers and coleagues as well as friends for a lifetime. I was young, had to attend the high-school, but nevertheless proud to be able to a part of a pioneering computer industry in Slovenia.

My computer profession somewhat started there. First assignment was to show what microcomputers were and how could they be used - at Alpe Adria Fair in Ljubljana. Enthusiastic and keen to learn, but also knowledgeable and happy to teach, i was cheerfully assigned different tasks - from exhibiting the hi-tech computer that i owned, to programming games for the television show "TV Quiz" with Misa Molk. In the "spare" time, i used to go to primary school and teach others how to use computers. Mostly outside school, of course :)
