I joined the team at Oaktree Power as Company Secretary, to help the directors develop and grow the company, focussing on governance and compliance. Oaktree Power was established in 2020 as a new, technology-driven company enabling facility owners across the UK to access financial and environmental benefits they’ve never been able to before.

Joined as an independent member on formation of the board and assisted the first Chair to build a strong team to develop and drive forward the local regeneration agenda. Developed relations with local bodies and key thinkers such as local government leaders, the Local Enterprise Partnership and MPs leading to major investments in the district's infrastructure. Using my IBM experience, in 2015 I designed the commercial and contractual structure for Staffordshire Police's novel IT outsourcing arrangement based on partnership principles. From 2017, the Police & Crime Commissioner has asked me back to provide advice on governance of the £10M p.a. contract and on partnership strategy and negotiation.

I worked with the board of Ecocycle Group, mentoring the directors as they prepared a series of innovative renewable energy projects, and was Company Secretary, focussing on good governance across the group of companies.

Stafford

Deloitte invited me in as an external consultant to guide the Staffordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, who was looking for a supplier to deliver improved and innovative IT services to the Police and potentially other public sector clients, working in a partnership structure. This would be a novel arrangement and it required considerable development of the commercial partnership requirements. I used my experience to identify, develop, and document the requirements for the partnership framework. The procurement completed with the appointment of Boeing in the partner role.

An exceptionally wide variety of roles, latterly focussed on commercial management - leadership of complex projects (with revenue up to $120M p.a.), negotiation, review and trouble-shooting - and in building and leading teams.I built and led a team to advise IBM's senior executives on investments in complex projects using a risk-based approach to make recommendations on opportunity selection, proposal development and delivery. Executives relied on this to make informed investment decisions on high risk, high visibility projects, focussed on successful delivery on time and on budget.I worked with clients in many industries - most recently, retail, leisure and pharmaceuticals - and worked for long periods on these and other clients' premises, thus understanding their businesses and cultures.Also a qualified salesman and systems engineer, which assists me in managing client relationships and in quickly understanding complex projects.

I originally joined IBM as a systems engineer, which was a technical marketing role, and specialised in mainframes and storage products, designing solutions to meet customer needs, and selling and implementing them. Later I moved into project management and quality assurance; into management of teams of technical professionals; and into sales and client management.
