This was a labour of love, both incredibly challenging and rewarding - and one of those bittersweet opportunities where success is doing yourself out of a job!Simon, Teressa, and the Southern team were proud to win the Logistics and Distribution section of the 2020 Otago Business awards, edging out impressive competition in the form of Mainfreight and DHL in the process. The win was a fantastic validation of 18 months hard graft leading up to it.In February 2021 Simon advised Teressa that the time was right for him to move on and leave Teressa to finally take full control of the business that she had always been able to run herself, but now KNEW she could run. It took over 3 months from there to complete a succession plan and align all the moving parts, but Simon successfully departed May 2021, and took 6 well-earned weeks off with family.After approximately 50% growth in the 2 years Simon was with Southern, when he left the company had 3 branches nationwide, 5500m2 of warehouse space, 19 trucks, and 35 staff. Simon was Silver Fern Farms' Livestock Transport co-ordinator, together with 180 of New Zealands finest Rural Transport Companies we got the Livestock to plant

This position involved overseeing the livestock supply for Silverfern farms, ensuring that scheduled processing matches company requirements at a macro level.

Simon was one half of a team of two that scheduled all stock movements for Silver Fern Farms North Island operations. We liaised closely with our plants who dictated capacity, upper management who dictated market requirements, and our reps who sourced stock from our Farmer shareholders.In the peak of the season the team controlled the movement of up to 20,000 animals a day moving on 120+ trucks to 7 processing plants.
