Research on Conversational AI; teaching (Formal Languages and Automata).

Member of the Interaction Lab at Heriot-Watt University.Work on statistical methods for interaction management, in particular simulation of user behaviour in a multi-user, multi-modal, situated setting.Involvement in FP7 projects JAMES (human-robot interaction), SpaceBook (pedestrian navigation and tourist guide), and STAC (non-cooperative dialogue). Also involved in the EPSRC project ABC-POMDP.

Research on POMDPs for spoken dialogue systems, in particular user modelling and user simulation. This work took place in the context of the EU FP7 project CLASSiC and an EPSRC project on POMDP modelling for dialogue management.

Research on multidimensionality in natural language communication. In particular, a multi-agent dialogue manager was developed, enabling dialogue systems to support multidimensional communicative behavior on the system side. This work was done in the context of a Dutch research programme on interactive multimodal information extraction (IMIX), part of which consisted of developing an demo system for interactive question answering in the medical domain.

PhD Research on using Bayesian networks for dialogue modelling in general and Dialogue Act Recognition in particular.
