In my role as Kaiwhakahaere Whakapakari Akoranga, Manager, (then Practice Lead) of Learning Design, I supported a team of 60+ talented Learning Designers (LD), Principal LDs and Team Leads to create high quality learning experiences for students across New Zealand Aotearoa. Following a 2017 institutional change programme, I developed a set of design principles to guide our collective efforts. I have also created an internal capability framework, developed continuing professional sessions to upskill designers, and provide a scholarship based approach to design innovations. With New Zealand as our campus, and 40,000 students, we have a duty to ensure students who either cannot, or chose not, to study face-to-face, have the opportunity to learn. My aim to enable designers to develop the courseware and learning experiences to enable situated and authentic vocational study, suitable for the changing patterns of media consumption and communication norms.

The Learning and Teaching Team was created in 2011 just before University title was awarded. I was appointed the first Associate Dean (Teaching Enhancement). In 2016 I also took responsibility for University-wide coordination of Scholarship and Research. During my tenure we received commendations for faculty development through two QAA reviews.In addition to the strategic leadership functions implicit in the role (authoring strategies for Faculty Learning Development, Technology Enhanced Learning and a third for Scholarship and Research) I also:- Designed, developed and validated a strategically important internal PGCert HE in the form of the 60 credit Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Education in first is 12 months of my appointment.- Designed, developed and validated the HEA accredited CPD framework for teaching enhancement from D1-D4 (Headway)- Provided leadership in the development of Faculty Learning Development Committee- Managed the institutional subscription of BPP University to the HEA- Represented the University College at national Quality Assurance Agency Consultation events and co-drafted institutional responses- Drafted an institution wide Peer Observation Policy and later enhanced this with an Online Peer Observation Policy- Initiated the creation of the Technology Enhanced Learning Forum - Responded to changes in institutional priorities to advance plans for digital literacies and CPD, bringing together a range of colleagues to identify priorities. - Championed the use of in-class (SGID) evaluations of teaching and the use of development micro-teaching recordings;- Modelled and promoted the effective use of technology.- Authored the successful 2012 HEA Internationalisation Change Academy initiative to develop a toolkit to establish the epistemological beliefs of students to support the HE engagement.
