Since completing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing in 1997, my subsequent career has centred on the business events and tourism industry. Starting as a Sales Executive in a grass-roots, high-pressure sales environment in Sydney, my sales acumen and people leadership skills resulted in promotion to a number of overseas posts as the Product and Marketing Director responsible for leading the planning and development of up to 30 events per year. In London, I formed a corporate events marketing and management consultancy advising some of the leading national charities and FT500 companies on strategies to expand their current market and explore strategic partnerships to grow profitability.Upon returning to Australia, I joined Staging Connections, the country’s largest provider of audio visual services as their Regional Sales Manager for south-east Queensland, and not long afterwards was promoted to General Manager for Cairns having full operational, sales and financial oversight of the local business. As this was a period of change for the local business, I was able to provide the collaborative leadership that was required to maintain a positive and productive work environment.While living in Cairns, it had become clear that the Chinese market was going to be a key area of growth, so I started studying Mandarin Chinese (which I now speak fairly fluently). Over the same time, I had again developed a management and marketing consultancy practice assisting SME’s grow the size and profitability of their businesses.In 2018, I moved to China to take up a teaching position at the Kunming University of Science and Technology, and subsequently Yunnan University. I have recently moved back to Australia and am now looking for that exciting next step in my career.
