In this role I worked in partnership with various regional brand marketing teams to enable business strategies and goals through the application of information technology solutions and services that deliver most value. My principle focus was in realising the most value from Digital Marketing and Virtual Collaboration technologies. During this period I became the IT lead on programs focused on implementing standard digital channels across the European region.

Responsible for Enterprise 2.0 implementations and consultancy within global R&D, based upon technologies such as Pfizerpedia (MediaWiki) an enterprise wiki, SharePoint and NewsGator. As part of this role I developed 'Project Collaborate' a Community of Practice and Knowledgebase for those within my company responsible for (or interested in) implementing Enterprise 2.0 enabled solutions and ways of working. As part of my work with SharePoint I have recently co-authored and implemented a framework for the design, creation and management of SharePoint TeamSite collections to enable better collaboration and avoid outcomes such as 'SharePoint Sprawl'.

A brand new role based on the appeal of utilising Web 2.0 technologies and approaches within the enterprise. This was a brand new area in the company and I was responsible for identifying and implementing Enterprise 2.0 solutions, often based on FOSS, within Pfizer global R&D, working closely with my colleagues in the newly created Information and Knowledge Management Group.During this period I became internationally recognized for my groundbreaking work implementing Web 2.0 tools and approaches for collaboration and information sharing for customers within an industry leading Fortune 500 firm. I was frequently asked to speak about this subject and presented at conferences across Europe and the USA.

Technical team lead and technical consultant covering systems analysis, design and development, predominantly around web-based applications, for business groups ranging across Pfizer pharmaceutical development and regulatory.A highlight from this period was my involvement in leading the technical efforts related to the development of strategic industry/business model re-engineering, aka Blue Sky. I defined and developed a number of new activities designed to support this brand new area of work, including conceptual modeling using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), and highly successful use of blue-screen films to represent new ideas and make them accessible for a wide audience. It was through this work, and the need to 'socialise' the concepts and ideas that we were responsible for generating, that I first came across the idea of utilising Web 2.0 technologies within the Enterprise, and hence set off on the journey that led to my subsequent roles in the organization.

Managed the UK Clinical IT software development team as well as being Technical Lead on a wide range of software development and implementation projects, majoring in Exploratory (or Early) Development and Phase I clinical trials, working on projects with roll-outs in Europe, USA and Japan. Technical consultant to clinical development teams on a range of technical issues, including 21 CFR part 11 in relation to systems used by external development partners, and on use of Electronic Data Capture technology in clinical trials.Developed and implemented Software Life Cycle standards.Devised and implemented the ‘Delivery Focus Team’; a means of sharing resources across department/projects, and matching resource requirements against individuals’ skills and passions.Lead for a global COTS software package selection project for Non-compartmental Analysis (NCA) workbench tools, working with a scientific colleagues based in California, Michigan, Connecticut, United Kingdom and Japan.

Systems Integrator for the deployment of a Remote Data Capture system for patient data, including use of electronic patient diaries, on a Phase II clinical trial, representing the first time this method of study data collection had been attempted in Pfizer. The Global Clinical Team Leader wrote to the team, “This has been a remarkable success story. I am really impressed with the dedication you have all shown in overcoming several obstacles in the way of this study and still meeting and in most cases exceeding your targets.” and “The technological hurdles have been dealt with effectively and the learnings are being captured for future use.”Designed, developed and implemented IT solutions based on Visual Basic, SQL Server, Windows NT, Visual Basic for Applications, HTML and JavaScript.

Management Information Officer for the bursar’s department of the University of Greenwich, where I was responsible for developing and implementing an Accommodation Services Database to keep accurate records of over 3,000 student tenancies and all transactions relating to annual rent turnover of £6 million. In 1996 I received an honorarium from the University of Greenwich in recognition of the the work I carried out providing IT consultancy to other universities in the UK, which generated funds for research at the University. During this period I also developed the first ever student accommodation website for the University.

Supported the Head of Catering and Services in the management of service contracts at University of Greenwich, Morgan Grampian, Woolwich College and Merton College. Created software to produce budget tracking and metrics reports and analysis for all contracts. Devised and produced marketing materials across all contracts utilising desktop publishing software. Part of the management team for the day-to-day running of catering services at the University of Greenwich. My focus was in the management of out-of-term event management at the University, covering corporate events, weddings and concerts.
