I feel very fortunate in my career as an airline pilot. I've worked with many fantastic people who are dedicated to aviation that is safe, efficient and comfortable. I've flown a range of aircraft on all kinds of domestic and international routes and I've never lost the joy in flying. While recent events have meant an end to my time with Virgin, I've been so proud to wear the Captain's uniform for them. It's a great airline and I'm sure, with so many people working so hard to keep it going, that things will come good again.A big focus of my career has been on safety and human factors, and it's a fascinating area of people's behaviour. Safety is obviously paramount in flying and we Australians enjoy the safest aviation in the world. That record requires diligent attention to safety systems and procedures, and my experience as an IOSA Safety Auditor highlighted that. I've had the opportunity to develop and teach training courses in non-technical skills at Virgin and this has helped me to contribute to a better skilled team.
