As a retail sales associate I'm working in-store to help our customers find products that fit their needs. As part of our image and policy we also help our customers with various (often IT-related) problems, everything from simply changing flashlight batteries to working out a well-rounded solution to their slow network. Some of the things I've learned during this time was:> Fast learning in 1-2 weeks (Theoretical as well as practical; Firearms, regulations, laws, routines.)> The importance of teamwork and good morale.> Good routines and how to recover if it's disturbed.> "Expecting the unexpected", having a backup plan if something goes wrong.> Thinking on your feet> Working with what you have. You don't always have all the information you want/need. Either find it out yourself or work out a solution anyways.> Know that you have weaknesses that your team can make up for, in the same way your strengths can make up for your teams' weakness.> Being part of something bigger. You are the cog in a well-oiled machine that keeps it all running.> Leadership. Both taking and giving orders. Doing what's commanded despite not wanting to or suggesting alternative options. Respect goes both ways.> Positive outlook. "At least it's not raining", "At least I got 3 hours of sleep this time" It could always be worse!
