About Simon Wachira

So, Simon, tell us about yourself? This question disarms even the best of us! Who is Simon? Simon is a communication expert, passionate about creating strategies, campaigns, brands and changing the world - I love causes and initiatives. Let me unpack this in six stops in a one-mile journey: (i) Storyteller – I am fascinated by stories. Like a weaverbird yarning grass into a beautiful nest, I like plots, threads, scripts and storylines. I am a public speaker and a writer. I like telling stories that change lives or amplify causes. (ii) Creating Things – I love creating things: beautiful brands, initiatives, campaigns and organisations. I am fascinated by creative, strategic and design thinking. I love mindmaps and whiteboards. (iii) Changemaker - I desire and push for change. I have helped create, drive and lead campaigns and initiatives that deliver change in the communities. This is my higher purpose. (iv) Versatility across Sectors and Skills Set – I have worked and consulted across sectors: private, public and non-profit sectors. I have built brands, communications strategies, organised events, trained, produced documentaries and adverts, executed campaigns, e.t.c. I have founded and led organisations, consulted developed strategic plans and products for organisations. In the non-profit space, I have consulted in impact reporting (telling stories of impact), advocacy, resource mobilisation, campaigns, projects design, implementation and evaluation, among others. (v) Exposure – Every assignment or brand that I have handled has given me two things: (a) opportunity to do (b) opportunity to learn. It has been a privilege to me. These brands have given me national, regional and continental exposure. These include: YMCA Africa (AAYMCA), University of Nairobi, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), Trademark East Africa, Africa Media Initiative, National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), among others. (vi) I Love Open Spaces. Well, not just the beach and the plains in northern Kenya, but open culture; open teams and open minds.
