Established Simon Widdowson Ltd (SWL) in 2002, a specialist distribution and warehousing business and over the past 16 years grew the business from 5 staff, 2 wagons, 5,000sqft warehouse to 40 staff, 15 wagons and 50,000sqft warehouse with a peak turnover of £3million per year.Due to the nature of being Owning Managing Director this required a personally invested, varied role, with a specific focus on supporting the transport office, key responsibilities included:Transport ManagementOverseeing the traffic and vehicle management team:- Operator CPC license holder – refresher course completed in December 2018 - Route planning for 15 vehicles, overseeing the transport office and direct line management of 18 HGV Drivers- Managing driver staff levels, including annual leave advance planning and sickness cover - Managing maintenance schedules – ensuring regular safety inspections, up to date MOT - Managing Drivers Tacho graphs – ensuring drivers adhere to Working Time Directive (WTD) - Vehicle Tracking – RAM tracking - Driver pre and post delivery briefing- Driver training – ensure drivers are kept up to date and adhere to the latest policies, procedures, and legislation - Load planning – arranging deliveries for various customers across various UK destinations in a timely manner. - Driver Incidents management – reporting, documenting and investigatingWarehouse management- Overseeing entire warehouse activity, including:- Goods in and out (500+ pallets per day)- Stock control of 7,000 pallets via WMS System- Overseeing loading process to reduce damages and missing stock / pallets- Authorised new warehouse processes for better pick efficiency- Overseeing container devanning procedures- HR and all associated functions- Health & Safety compliance- Overseeing invoicing, maximising profitability and cash flow, managing budgets, MI reporting - Managing and negotiating contracts for operations equipment- Customer relationship management
