The AGSA focuses on the proper use and management of public money, and reports on the finances of all national, provincial and local government administrations. The reports of the Auditor-General must be made public and must be submitted to any legislature and authorities prescribed by national legislation.In this role my primary responsibility was to oversee audits and ensure that professional staff prepared audit working papers and performed audit procedures in accordance with professional and AGSA policies and procedures. I developed audit objectives, plans, strategies, procedures, and time budgets for specific audit assignments and coordinate audit assignments within designated areas. Additional responsibilities included evaluating the efficacy of our organizational administrative and financial controls and controlling audit assignments from initial assignment through the completion of fieldwork. I also reviewed financial transactions and records for compliance, and worked with the Accountants of the audited parties in reviewing audit results and exceptions and in explaining the findings as well as the basis for the exceptions.My duties included the scheduling of work assignments and setting priorities. I also directed the work of subordinate employees and evaluated their performance by reviewing completed work assignments and work techniques.
