With almost 20 years’ experience in the shipping industry, Simphiwe is well-placed to bring a wealth of experience to any shipping company he works for. A hard-worker and a dedicated employee, Simphiwe has been honing his skills since entering the industry in 2000, and has worked his way to becoming an efficient & highly-effective Senior Ships Operator with one of the world’s most well-respected shipping companies. After completing a course in essential computer skills from Richards Bay Technical College, Simphiwe joined Sturrock Grindrod Maritime as a Ships Accounts and Disbursements Clerk in 2000. Quickly realising his aptitude in this sector and the potential for advancement, he supplemented his education with a National Diploma in Financial Management from Richards Bay Technical College & a Certificate in Tutorship from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers London, achieving both qualifications in 2001. His hard work paid off and he was promoted to Ships Operator in 2002, rapidly developing new skillsets and learning from his seniors. He accepted a position as Marine Representative at Wilhelmsen Ship Services in 2004, effectively picking up the responsibilities of a Senior Ships Operator, and he served in this position for 6 years. Simphiwe moved to GAC Shipping as a Senior Marine Representative in 2010, a position in which he continued to co-ordinate all aspects of a vessel’s stay in port, further improving his skillset in both the hands-on & administrative side of the role. In 2016, Simphiwe joined LBH Southern Africa, a company specialising in Ships Agency, Logistics and Projects Services, as a Senior Ships Operator. He is responsible for co-ordinating a vessel’s stay in port, managing all aspects of cargo loading and discharging, working with the accounts department & paying invoices, supervising berthing and cargo operations, organising and attending meetings, & many other related duties.
