Took a few months off to deal with a death in the family and a minor medical issue, and to get ready to send my oldest off to college at the end of August.

Completed a cleanup of 900,000+ folders migrated from GoFileRoom to Box. For throughput, and to deal with complex business rules, this required a custom multithreaded application that interacted with Box's web API. Built a sample application to interact with Wolters Kluwer's CCH Axcess API.Managed a team of engineers working in Scrum on a diverse array of projects. Held one-on-one meetings, set goals, and wrote performance reviews. Hired a data engineer to supplement one other on the team. Brought in a long-time consultant as a permanent hire. Reviewed pull requests from team members and gave feedback. Implemented a pairing system to break down knowledge silos within the team. Interviewed developers for Aprio's Automation team. Interviewed and vetted outside consulting companies for Aprio Cloud, for engagement as well as acquisition.Wrote guidance for system interactions, based largely on event-driven architecture concepts, but also including web APIs and direct integrations as options for certain cases.Documented existing Azure architecture and proposed changes to improve clarity and increase separation between production and non-production environments.Participated in Aprio's Citizen Data Scientist program, presenting one session with my team covering general database concepts and outlining Aprio's existing data environment. Worked toward a consolidated data architecture, producing ERDs and the beginnings of a data catalog using Azure Purview.Conducted an inventory of applications in use, resulting in a table of ~85 applications to be governed under application portfolio management. Wrote software evaluation criteria and began developing governance processes. Selected an enterprise architecture tool for implementation.Participated in and supported Aprio's IT Steering Committee, serving as technical owner for ~30 initiatives, and developing estimates and KPIs to inform committee decision-making.Represented Aprio at IT Alliance (ITA) conferences.

My work at Cardlytics varied widely. I inventoried all known applications and produced the first enterprise-wide diagram showing all installed applications, and maintained it over time. I was widely recognized at Cardlytics for my diagramming skills and my ability to communicate complex technical ideas.I defined standards for application interactions, including proper use of Apache Kafka. I served in a consulting role to development teams, travelling to India at one point to meet with teams there. I performed evaluations of, and built proofs-of-concept for, a variety of third-party products including workflow engines, databases, centralized configuration, Kafka, and other things. I served as architecture lead for Cardlytics' open banking initiative in the UK, designing and coding the initial implementation myself of a sync engine to pull transaction data on a daily basis from a third party for millions of customers, and consulting with a development team to maintain and extend it. I also served as architecture lead for Purchase Graph, an internal system for maintaining information about brands and store locations, and mapping transactions to those.I proposed and prototyped a flexible replication or 'shovel' application for Kafka topics to meet Cardlytics' unique requirements; this tool made it to production and is actively used. I represented the architecture team on Project Picard, an effort to re-imagine the company's entire product offering. I also led the team that won a Cardlytics patent idea competition.

I am currently working with Java 8, Scala, IntelliJ IDEA, Maven, Gradle, Apache Storm, Apache Spark, Elasticsearch, Docker, Vagrant, PostgreSQL, and related technologies.

I am currently responsible for solution definition for new feature development and extension of our existing codebase, as well as discovery and definition of long-term architecture, as they pertain to the search vertical within the company. These efforts include (among other things) performing technical reviews of requirements documents, defining coding standards, training team members, 'spiking' new technologies and solution approaches, and coordinating with counterparts in other verticals.

In June 2013 I was promoted to a managerial position. I traveled to China to evaluate and train our team there. Building on a small local team of three (including me), I personally interviewed, hired and trained an Atlanta team of twenty engineers, as well as a similar number for another vertical within the company. Over 2014 and early 2015, my teams and I successfully demonstrated an increasing velocity trend, efficiently delivering several high-profile feature sets in the digital advertising space, as well as many smaller ones, using Scrum with elements of XP as our base methodology.

In my original capacity as senior software engineer, I developed new features for IgnitionOne's application, and integrated API upgrades from partners like Google and Facebook. I contributed to the transformation of IgnitionOne's software architecture from a legacy n-tier design to a CQRS- and message-based design using RabbitMQ and Redis as well as C#, Ruby, and SQL Server, and wrote our core messaging library from scratch. I served as scrum master and team lead, reviewed peer code, implemented coding standards, and documented architectural decisions.

The scope of my work varied widely and covered the full lifecycle of custom app development projects for my clients. This included:- Requirements gathering;- System architecture, design, and prototyping;- Design review;- Estimation;- Full-stack programming, unit testing and integration;- Managing developers;- System and load test planning and execution;- Deployment, training and support;- Infrastructure management;- Product evaluation;- Recruitment and interviewing.I worked mostly with technologies from Microsoft, though I also gained experience with a wider variety of technologies including Linux, Oracle, PHP and Java. My clients included the likes of Pfizer, BellSouth, and Siemens as well as governmental agencies, non-profits, financial services and insurance companies. I spent 5+ years as software architect and lead developer for one financial client, producing the industry-leading application in their space in the U.S.

Programmer. Developed a Windows front end to CA-HRISMA, a full-featured AS/400 human resources package, as well as a few other smaller projects.

Prepared proposals in response to RFPs, catalogued resumes and managed the office network and PCs.
