I’m currently a senior at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, pursuing a degree in accounting. I was previously a mathematics major since I had an urge to become a mathematics teacher. But seeing that I was more interested in accounting, I wanted to be a part of business administration. When I was a Mathematics major, I did work as a tutor in Kumon, an educational company that assists students ( Pre-K to 12th grade ) with English and Math. I worked at Kumon for a little over a year, so I do have experience with both teaching and higher-level math. Teaching children gave me the ability to gain a lot of patience. I also have experience with customer service after working at Subway. My employers and co-workers have described me as adaptable, respectful, attentive and hardworking. I am somewhat of a leader, since I recently created a Bhangra dance team at Cal Poly, Pomona. Starting up was not an easy feat, but as time went on, I gained more connections through friends and family. These connections are now helping me bring up the cultural dance team, whether it be through word of mouth or through social media. I am also on board as Seva Chair for the Sikh Student Association (SSA) at Cal Poly, Pomona. Every Sunday we package food at the Walnut Sikh Temple in Walnut, California. This service is called “langar sewa”, the distribution of something to others, whether it be food or clothes. After we package the food at the temple, we then distribute it to the homeless in Pomona. I will be graduating in December of 2024 and I plan to pursue a career in Accounting. I am excited to pursue a position in which I can help a company to achieve their accounting or mathematical goals. In the meanwhile, I will continue to acquire new skills and build a solid professional network.
