System Engineering Intern
During my Nanosonics internship, I immersed myself in the dynamic field of medical devices and biomedical engineering. As a Systems Engineering intern, I actively contributed to various aspects of the product development process for the Trophon2.In collaboration with the Systems Engineering team, I supported essential product-related activities. These ranged from updating Design Description documents, updating, managing and implementing regulatory standards, sustaining interdepartmental communication for the purposes of maintaining a project timeline and stakeholder criteria, to collaborating with the onsite R&D team, where I gained experience in medical device innovation intricacies within a lab environment. My role also involved risk management to ensure product reliability prior to marketing and throughout its lifetime. I identified and addressed potential risks in all aspects of the product which allowed me to extensively hone my problem-solving skills.I had the opportunity to analyse internal stakeholder and external customer needs and ensure traceability from the design input stage to verification and validation testing. This deep involvement allowed the fostering of a holistic approach to product development.Ultimately my internship at Nanosonics provided invaluable insights into medical devices and biomedical engineering. Through collaborative efforts, meticulous documentation management, and hands-on involvement with all aspects of a product, I learned and modestly contributed to the exciting field of medical device innovation.
Student Intern (Poct Student Program)
I actively participated in a collaborative group project, under direct observation by the director of NSW Health Pathology at the time, which focused on developing an innovative Point of Care Testing (PoCT) bench for use in a dynamic hospital environment as well as within the field to provide rural communities with access to valuable medical tests. Our efforts encompassed conceptualizing ideas, design sketches, 3D modelling, and prototyping, as well as exploring the mechanics of the bench and its components to ensure effective usability in all use cases. We extensively tested the practicality of our designs and identified potential manufacturers to supply resources for prototype testing to identify the efficacy of our bench. Our project aimed to enhance healthcare delivery through a portable bench with features such as secure device mounts, vibration dampening, a handwashing station, power solutions, and a tablet mount with integrated management software. This project with NSW Health Pathology was a valuable experience that showcased a dedication to advancing healthcare innovation. Our comprehensive final designs and prototypes reflected our commitment to meticulous planning and execution, even though the project didn't reach its completion stage.
Trainee Cnc Machinest
During my time at Nupress, I gained practical experience as a Trainee CNC Machinist where I actively contributed to tasks such as maintenance, tool changes, and CAD software usage, which enhanced my proficiency with CNC machinery.Collaborating closely with my team on diverse projects, such as the machining of tight tolerance plane components, allowed me to ensure high-quality results were achieved. I meticulously inspected complex components, consistently ensuring that company standards were maintained.Although I don't plan to pursue CNC machining as a long-term career, this role provided valuable hands-on experience in manufacturing processes and allowed me to develop a range of technical skills that continue to contribute to my work in the engineering field. I look forward to continuing to employ these skills in my future endeavours.
Mathematics Tutor
As a Mathematics Tutor at Master Tuition, I focused on enhancing the math abilities of high school students preparing for HSC mathematics courses. I identified weak points in complex topics and devised effective strategies to build their skills. Establishing strong connections with students and guardians allowed me to tailor teaching programs to their individual needs, optimizing learning within a limited timeframe. While tutoring isn't my long-term career goal, my time at Master Tuition provided valuable teaching skills that I'll leverage in my future pursuits.
