The French Railways (SNCF) is collaborating with Indian Railways to provide railway station design and urban development expertise for two pilot projects, Ambala and Ludhiana Railway station. Currently engaged as a consultant with its design wing, AREP Ville, my role is to establish in the initial phase, the local connect with the client, conduct field studies including urban & real estate studies to be taken forward as a design basis, list key stakeholders among city authorities, real estate developers to be invited for public review of design in later phase.

GMP & ICT (in a joint venture) are working on the master planning & feasibility study for the redevelopment of two railway stations: Chandigarh-UT and Habibganj, Bhopal. The project is envisaged in a PPP mode and will include design of a new station, land redevelopment including new private commercial development and the overall master planning. Heading the team at ICT, Simranjit's role was to guide and streamline the inputs of various specialists (transportation, urban planning, rail, finance & real estate etc.) into a cohesive design strategy. Worked in close coordination design head at GMP and represented GMP on all technical issues with the client, including station planning.

Headed the Gurgaon vertical of Design Management team for some of the major projects that included commercial, residential & hospitality. The job profile involved undertaking analysis of the ‘product type’ for each project based on the intended design concept, cost, market preference & its subsequent follow-up throughout the project cycle.Design process management work included making client brief, chairing design development meetings, coordinating work during tender stage including budget & estimation, review & assessment of GFC’s. Construction management work included overseeing the construction work & inspection of quality.

A key member of the Architecture cell and involved at both levels of operations as well as business development. Working as Project Manager & Resident-Architect for “Redevelopment of Mumbai CST into a World-class station” provided an opportunity to explore and work in the cities of Mumbai & Paris. This project for the Indian Railway will be executed through a PPP model on DBOFT basis. The design consultants are AREP Ville (France) & Egis India in a joint venture.This project called for an urban design intervention around the UNESCO protected site of Mumbai CST (Victoria Terminus) suburban station & shed. Along with restoration, the key design features included: Track remodeling to increase passenger handling capacity and achieve a 3 minute headway; Station planning & provision of world class amenities based on the railway guidelines & studies conducted of relevant stations at Paris; Building of a new long distance station; Design for a controlled “new commercial development” to be allotted to the concessionaire on a leased basis. Urban Integration with city transportation, infrastructure and heritage context (Fort precinct) was an inherent requirement.Presentations have been made to Mumbai Heritage committee (MHCC); Transportation (MMRDA, Traffic Police); Urban Development Ministry for their review and approval. The Master plan stands approved by Central Railways & awaits approval from the Ministry of Railways at New Delhi.
