My Post Doc position in the Department of Infectious Diseases was focused on understanding how multidrug resistant bacteria evade host response in the lung using the expertise I perfected during my PhD and Fellowship detailed below. • Characterising metabolic response of the host to multidrug resistant pathogens - to better understand how pathogens cause disease • Developing novel infection models in vitro and in vivo• Reviewing manuscripts submitted to relevant journals as part of the peer review process of academic publishing

‘Development of novel antimicrobial drugs targeting bacterial glucose uptake’My PhD project identified glucose as a risk factor of P. aeruginosa infection and that targeting glucose uptake can reduce bacterial burden. The fellowship involved the generation of pools of mutants to identify novels genes involved in acute respiratory infection and assess availability and suitability of drug targets for compound identification and screening in vitro and in vivo. Skills learnt include:• Generation of transposon directed insertion pool of mutants for use in the in vivo and in vitro models developed in my PhD• Development of detailed target validation process to identify novel gene targets and potential drug screens for antibiotic resistant bacterial including chemical and structural analysis of gene targets• Forming collaborations with University of Cambridge to generate high throughput sequencing data • Experience in Grant writing and application processes• Collaborating with academia and industry using techniques I have developed including with AstraZeneca

Demonstrating and supervising student use of laboratory equipment.Teaching basic laboratory techniques to BSc and MSc students and ensuring safety procedures and good practice of sterile techniques. Data interpretation

Intensive Transferable Skills course followed by a research placement learning a triple cell culture with P. aeruginosa and a biofilm formation assay.
