As a member of Shutterstock's Subscriptions Team, I helped maintain a small fleet of services and workers to manage, adjust, and automatically renew subscriptions.RESPONSIBILITIES> Act as a subject matter expert on the Subscriptions domain at Shutterstock, both within and outside the team. I frequently collaborated with other teams working on initiatives that depended on our services, and paired with teammates to guide them through Subscriptions-related work.> Contribute heavily to project and sprint planning by writing tickets, communicating with stakeholders, and often running grooming sessions.> Run point on several long-term, cross-team initiatives. This included being closely involved in the design and implementation phases, identifying and addressing risks and blockers quickly, representing the Subscriptions team during meetings with stakeholders, and helping coordinate launches.> Act as a first responder when there were incidents in production or when release pipelines were blocked due to issues with our staging environment.

Helped design and implement key backend functionality to support the new Flex and Flex Premium subscriptions, which were introduced in early 2021. I focused on licensing eligibility ("Which of their subscriptions can this subscriber use to license this asset?") and updating the logic to consume credits to support Flex subscriptions.

As the de facto owner of Keatext's backend services, I focused on tackling technical debt in a way that made the backend easier to maintain and reason about, more robust and flexible, and most importantly—more performant.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS> Led the migration of a monolith (Node.js & MongoDB) to microservices (Scala & PostgreSQL). I designed, implemented, and deployed the microservices, and occasionally guided other developers involved in the migration.> Simplified the database schema for text mining results, resulting in increased performance, ease of maintenance, referential integrity, and stability.> Designed and implemented a microservice that handles authorization for the Keatext platform, and enables important features such as multi-organization users, feature flags at the user and organization levels, and more.
