NART Insurance and Reinsurance Brokerage Inc. is a leading insurance brokerage group in Turkey and the surrounding region. The company provides a wide array of insurance and risk management solutions to industrial and retail companies operating in Turkey, premium retail insurance products to individuals as well as offering re-insurance services to insurance companies in Turkey and its region. My role as a board member is to prepare, facilitate and monitor the five-year buisness plan, the annual budget and review progress together with the board and the sales teams of the company and closely observe the KPIs of its various divisions.

Netherlands

My role initially as CEO, later as Exec. Board Member is to transform the company under a new business plan, team, corporate and legal structure with an international expansion angle. Transtal Shipping BV is a Dutch based shipping company operating in the "short sea shipping" segment mainly active in the Mediterranenan, the Baltics and the Atlantic coast of Europe. I have consolidated the largely scattered assets of the company under the company, switched the ships to Dutch flag, obtained a tax ruling from the government to benefit from the tonnage-based taxation scheme and hence made the company bankable in order to accelerate the future growth of the companty. As a CEO my day-to-day reponsibilities included the management of the ship chartering division, finance function, maintenance and capex division. Started an initiative to reduce operating costs and carbon emmissions by reducing the average age of the fleet and invest in next-generation energy-efficient vessels in Dutch and German shipyards. Set up the necessary data metrics and KPIs in order to monitor activities and costs closlely. Substantially reformed the corporate governance and reporting practices of the company to make it an eligible M&A target for a potential future exit. During my term the profitability of the copmpany increased threeefold, costs were kept in a disciplined manner.

United States

Interim - CEO (one year) and now Advisor to the Board. This was my first B2C experience, working closely with young talents of the digital retailing era. Technofashion is a 360-degree consumer electronics company. Product design, manufacturing, marketing and sales to on-line and off-line segments globally comprise primary activities of the company. The company is a global licensee of Nautica, a regional licensee of Blaupunkt brands as well as owns a dozen of own brands famous in Turkey. Categories include audio, small domestic appliances and outdoor. My mandate was to transform the company to accelerate its growth by leveraging on its core competencies at a time when new product categories were initiated under new brands. I started by revamping the top management of the company and developed with them a 5 year business plan. Then I redesigned the organsitional and operating model of the company with the new C-level team and completely revamped the entire sales, marketing and finance teams. I am convinced that this new team will make a quantum leap in sales and profitability. I also worked intensively on setting up a transparent and accountable corporate governance backbone. The target was to prepare the company to make it an eligible M&A target or acquirer within two year's time. So far into 2023 the initial result positively reflect the ambitions set forth in new business plan.

Emea

Istanbul

CEO and one of the founding partners of this greenfield mine development project. Together with a financing partner we acquired a dormant chromite concession on a 890 hectares of land close to the Burdur province of Turkey. I have put together a team consisting of exploration scientists and prospectors and managed to uncover a previoulsy unknown, large high grade chrome ore deposit. This has been recognized as the most significant chromite discovery in the last fifty years in Western Anatolia. In order to create a commercially viable operation I have built a team of mining engineers, ore enrichment specialists, lab scientists and excavation site operators the mining operations gained recognition within international mining circles. Starting with underground mining and gradually moving into open-pit mining, the business expanded in a highly profitable manner. In time the company has become the second largest refractory grade lumpy chrome ore exporter in Turkey. In June 2019, I made an exit from the business by selling out to my partners.

Marmara Capital Asset Management is licensed asset management company, partly owned by Scandinavian investors and managed by its controlling shareholder Haydar Acun. The company runs various regulated funds offered to its large investor base. These funds invest in stocks of well managed, highly capitalized companies aiming to generate absolute returns in excess of Turkish risk free rates in the long run via fundamental stock-picking. As a chairman, my responsibility mainly focused on assisting the professional team in investment strategy and asset allocation to achieve return targets of the funds and assets under management.

Standard Profil Automotive Systems is a private equity-owned industrial company and is one of the leading global suppliers of automotive rubber sealings with ca. EUR 400 mio annual sales. I was recruited by the principal shareholders (via Korn Ferry), Bancroft Private Equity as CFO and board member responsible for all finance functions across 7 jurisdictions (Turkey, China, South Africa, Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, Marocco) including treasury, budgeting, reporting, accounting (IFRS and local GAAP) together with purchasing and IT functions ( http://www.standardprofil.com/en ). During my time my team has led crucial cost reduction and scrap reduction initiatives in industrial processes by setting and monitoring performance KPIs and incentivizing the technical teams to match restated goals and targets, thus enabling the company to achieve superior industrial excellence in our industry. These initiatives improved the EBITDA of the company in a sustainable manner, hence the valuation at the time of exit. Played a key role during the exit process by preparing the business plan, managing vendor due diligence, preparing and conducting management presentations to bidders as well as negotiating the terms of the staple financing of the new owners Actera Private Equity for the acquisition. I exited together with the C-level team after transfer of ownership.

Istanbul And Beirut

Delta Petroleum owns and operates the largest oil storage terminal in the Mediterranean basin for oil products. I joined the company in 2003 when it was awarded a major oil take-off contract by the Iraqi government under the U.N. Oil for Food Programme. During his time as CFO and Board member I managed the financing of oil purchases from Iraq and its transport to major refineries worldwide through international trade financing banks. In addition I also arranged the project financing for the capacity expansion of the oil terminal by the Iinternational Finance Corporation (World Bank Group). When the company's operations have reached a significant scale and attracted major international interest from oil companies worldwide, I managed the sales process by retaining JP morgan as advisors. Rubis Terminals of France came out as the buyers and I made his exit from the company.

I am an experienced banker in corporate finance, commercial lending and asset management operations. My main concentration has been centered arround equity and debt financing for blue chip Turkish companies and multinational companies operating in Turkey. I started my banking career as an equity analyst for blue chip stocks listed in the Istanbul Stock Exchange. During my term I managed the IPO process of the bank in Istanbul and London stock exchanges. I was also responsible for investor relations. When I left the bank I was heading the corporate banking division responsible for İzmir, Ankara, South Anatolia and Istanbul branches, which accounted for 60% of the bank's outstanding corporate loans.

I was engaged by the bank to develop a financial accounting software to analyse companies operating in high inlationary environments (inflation accounting was the topic of my thesis work during the MBA). I led a team consisting of a software engineer, a tax consultant and bankers. The new tool has been named Turkmac and has been used as a support tool in developing the bank's Turkish business. This effort has supported JP Morgan's ambitions and appetite to ultimately set up their branch operations in Istanbul for which I have worked on its feasibility study.
