With a masters degree in communications, Mathangi Jagdish a.k.a Ma.Ja started her career as an advertising professional, but soon turned playback singer , stage performer , Reality Tv anchor and judge . In 2011 she featured in coke studio season one and in a career spanning 20 plus years, she has to her credit over 475 film songs in several languages. She has worked with the who's who of the industry including recent Oscar winner M Keeravani of naatu naatu fame, Oscar and Grammy winning A R Rehman ( aha tamizhamma) and the legendary Illayaraja( apdi paakarduna) Harris Jeyraj ( x macchi y macchi) , prashant pillai ( manogatham Bhavan) to name a few. She has anchored , mentored and judged on some very popular TV shows like Super Singer on Vijay Tv , Sangeetha Maha Yuddham ( Tamil version of music ka maha muqaabla) on Sun Tv and Tanishq Swarna sangeetham on Raj Tv. Trained in Carnatic , Hindustani and Western , her voice is a blend of sultry soulful low notes , laced with sensibilities of Jazz & Blues , with a big hit of the runs and riffs of R&B and a dash of Indian classical. Her pet project Bollywood & All that jazz brings together Hindi Film hits from the 1950's till date , re interpreted re styled re harmonised in a 75 minute line up. She started songwriting in 2013 and her songs are driven by her personal experiences of life , penned in a quirky and candid style with themes that vary from the frustrations of not knowing how to cook and clean to encountering the philosophy that changed her life. Her debut EP is to be released soon in mid 2023. She created a platform called WHOLISTIC VOCALIST in January 2017 guides and supports aspiring musicians( nutrition hydration , sleep , mindsets , fitness , entrepreneurship and more) Wholistic Vocalist has already conducted several workshops this year and now it’s Mastermind of 5 is set to graduate after being personally handheld by Ma.Ja for a whole year.
