The AVID course is a yearlong, daily elective course designed to prepare students for college. The AVID curriculum draws on best practices in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) through teacher and tutor-led activities. While concurrently enrolled in a college-prep course of study, students learn strategies to enhance high school and college success, such as note-taking, outlining, writing, speaking, reading, test-taking strategies, and self-awareness. There will be a different emphasis each year of the program that pertains to the grade level and its needs. I was admitted to the MS in Computer Science program at Texas State University for the Spring 2012 semester after passing the GRE and TOEFL tests. The study pattern and everything else in the US were new to me. I adapted and learned a lot, and after hard work, I earned 21 CS credits and passed my MS qualifying exams by May 2013, with 18 credits remaining to complete the degree. Then, my husband was transferred from TX to CA for a different project, and I was also expecting. So, I had to withdraw from the Fall 2013 semester and move with him to CA. By God's grace, we were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, a truly memorable moment. In the last week of May 2015, I returned to Texas with my one-year-old daughter to complete my MS in Computer Science. It was a very challenging situation for me since my spouse was still in CA. I studied in San Marcos, TX, for two semesters, taking three courses in the summer and three in the fall of 2015, earning the remaining 18 credits. If you want something badly enough, you'll find a way to make it happen. After working hard for 6.5 months with determination, I earned my degree in December 2015. Graduation Day was a memorable event. Thanks to all the excellent professors and classmates I worked with. I’m incredibly grateful to my professors for challenging me and encouraging me to think critically. I'm also grateful to my professors who pushed me hard to improve. A special thanks to my caring father, who took care of my daughter while I was studying, and my supportive partner, who visited us every three weeks from CA to TX. Thank you to my priceless family and beautiful friends. The journey had its ups and downs, but overall, it has been incredibly rewarding!

This college was my first exposure to the U.S. higher education system, and it made me very excited. I completed a Software Testing and Computer Programming course (3 credit) with a grade of 'A'.I learned to test databases, create QA Test Plans and Test Suites, and write test cases using BUGZILLA and IBM RQM. I also wrote bug reports, conducted internet load testing, tested websites using various tools, made shipping decisions, and did independent research on the V-Model.As a token of appreciation for finding the most bugs and errors in one of our assigned projects through my test cases, my professor awarded me a gift card. The announcement in class was a complete surprise and made me very happy. Always give your best in everything you do without expecting a reward; it was truly memorable.
