Siobhan has significant expertise to share with others from her journey from an accidental advocate to a successful NFP leader. Siobhan established Unicorn Foundation NZ in 2012 and during her tenure she has helped to improve how NET cancer patients are diagnosed and managed including; establishing a national patient support service, introducing cutting-edge diagnostic equipment to NZ and passionately lobbying government agencies for funding and access to specialised treatment. She will remain as a board member of Unicorn Foundation NZ and continue her passion of working in the NFP sector, aligning with like-minded organisations.

Before I established Unicorn Foundation in New Zealand, there was no information or support for patients affected by Neuroendocrine Cancers. Here are some of the highlights during my tenure:• I established a nationwide support network for patients, including face to face meetings and online forums, we now employ 2 nurses to support this• Grown a community of supporters from scratch and our social media channels have high levels of engagement. • I have twice organised and coordinated large teams of fundraising cyclists who rode the length of the South and North islands. I also acted as support crew and ran PR over the events in which collectively we managed to fundraise over $500K• In 2015 we used the funds we had raised to establish a vital type of medical scan for the first time in NZ which has helped over 2000 cancer patients so far, (NET cancer and Prostate cancer patients)• I have lobbied government in the media and authored a substantial consumer submission to Pharmac to urge them to fund a type of treatment called PRRT, (Kiwi patients currently have to self-fund at $60K per year). • Along with my Pharmac submission I gathered 2,500 A4 signed letters and cancer stories to personally deliver these to Pharmac. As a result these committees have agreed to fund the treatment – we are now waiting on the Ministry of Health• Helped to establish and organised an annual national NET cancer education workshop • I have presented at numerous oncology and research conferences • Worked closely with the Auckland University NET cancer genomics research team, including arranging focus groups on a regular basis which patients have influenced research pathways and funding.• I established our most popular fundraising even called Craft Beer & Bites (we have had 3 events so far) In 2018 we raised over $70K• I have regularly engaged media to bring light to our cause, I have included links to some of the news articles I have been quoted in or I organised below:
