Siobhan Gorrie Miti, Chartered Linguist Email and Phone Number
Hi, I'm Siobhan and I'm a qualified translator who loves working with German texts. I translate technical and commercial documents into English: these include manuals, technical specifications, press releases and catalogues, for companies working in areas such as engineering, domestic appliances and factory automation. I also do some legal translation (generally contracts), I revise other people's translations, and I proofread texts written in English.I have an undergraduate degree in German and French plus a Master's in Translating, and I'm part of the team at Louise Killeen Translations. As Lead Translator there, I've had a significant role in building the team and training new employees over recent years. I love talking about writing style and creating texts that sound natural.I'm a Chartered Linguist and a Qualified Member (MITI) of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting I'm also really committed to CPD and serve on the committee of the Scottish Network of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. In 2013 I was awarded the ITI's John Hayes Prize for the best result in the examination for achieving qualified status, and in 2019 I won the Translator of the Year award from the Association of Translation Companies.

Lead TranslatorLouise Killeen Translations Sep 2006 - PresentDuring the years I have been employed here, I have been lucky enough to see significant development in the company and be involved in a variety of projects and roles. These have included:Training and recruitment: For many years I have played a key role in training new employees – and received training by more experienced translators myself. I have also been given the task of evaluating potential new employees during rounds of recruitment, which has given me further insight into the state of the profession.Industry and education engagement: After ten years in business we have developed very fruitful relationships with many customers, and I have had the opportunity to meet some of them during visits to either our premises or theirs. I have also given presentations for university translation students and have promoted the translation industry at careers fairs. As a company, we know how important it is to stay abreast of happenings in the translation industry: our Director Louise Killeen has frequently been involved in panel discussions and conferences and, through the information gained from this as well as my own activities such as reading, social media and attending events, I have been able to maintain an awareness of industry trends.Translation community involvement: Through the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, I have participated in several excellent CPD sessions in the form of conferences, workshops and talks – either hosted by the overarching ITI organisation or its sub-networks, such as the Scottish Network – and have been able to pass this information on to my colleagues. I have also attended activities whose focus has been on aspects such as networking rather than translation.Social media management: Most recently, I have been given the task of setting up and developing the company's social media presence on a variety of platforms, which has added a different dimension to my everyday work and presented a new and fascinating challenge. -
