Ministry of Finance — Crown Agencies SecretariatPortfolio: Insurance Corporation of BC, BC Lottery Corporation, Liquor Distribution Branch• Provides advice on stakeholder positions, engagement tactics and issues management strategies to director and CAS’ executive, and develops strategic responses to emerging, high-profile and complex issues for portfolio Crowns.• Prepares analysis on stakeholder positions to inform and establishes clear processes for incorporating stakeholder feedback into policy, legislative and/or regulatory decision making.• Proactively identifies policy, stakeholder relations and public communications issues and ensures direction and executive is aware of all Crown engagement and communications activities, current issues, media opportunities, etc.  • Establishes and manages effective relationships and communications with key stakeholder groups and Crowns, whose support is required in order for CAS to achieve its goals and priorities.  • Engages with senior staff in most portfolio Crowns to ensure government’s priorities, position and perspective on various topics are appropriately reflected in all stakeholder and communications materials being released.• Tactfully resolves conflicts that emerge between portfolio Crowns, external stakeholders, ministries and other partner groups and ministries when required.• Prepares a range of materials for CAS senior executive, as well as various Deputy Ministers and Ministers across government, including communication plans, briefing notes, discussion papers, fact sheets, presentations, speaking notes, correspondence, and flow charts.• Reviews portfolio Crown-related correspondence and relevant responses from Ministers or Deputy Ministers for accuracy and consistency of messaging.• Validates information and confirms communications approaches in coordination with Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE).

Ministry of Finance — Crown Agencies Secretariat• Compiled then synthesized information from various datasets to produce Gantt charts for executive leadership and to support Treasury Board submissions.• Concurrently managed multiple tasks (e.g., Deputy Minister’s weekly communications to the Secretariat, information notes, reconciling information from various datasets and sources).• Provided various supports to the executive leadership (e.g., MOU drafting, project tracking).• Prepared the agenda for and facilitated monthly Secretariat-wide meetings as well as weekly transition meetings with executive leadership.

Ministry of Finance — Crown Agencies & Board Resourcing Office• Reviewed Crown mandate letters as well as Crown and ministry service plans with Treasury Board staff to ensure reporting standards were met and consistent with legislation.• Synthesized the priorities, risks, and financial impacts from the 32 Crown mandate letter cabinet submissions into summary memos (96 total) for Cabinet committees and Deputy Ministers.• Conducted due diligence on new and re-appointment candidates for the Property Assessment Review Panels, Civil Resolution Tribunal, and Employment Assistance Appeal Tribunal.• In a team of four, resolved incorrect appointee information in the Agency Management System which required cross-referencing the appointment information of 2600+ appointees.• Compiled a 155-page binder for the Premier with advice on Crown governance/appointments.• Managed diverse and competing priorities, particularly to support other colleagues in accomplishing their tasks (e.g., drafted appointment decision notes for Ministers, statistically analyzed diversity data).

Including at CABRO as well as a Jr. Policy & Legislation Analyst with the Ministry of Attorney General — Court Services Branch, the latter of which involved:• Conducting policy research using a GBA+ lens to prepare: Order in Council packages; briefing notes and decision notes with recommendations for the Deputy Attorney General; internal branch policy; and, consultation letters to the Chief Justices and Chief Judge on behalf of the Assistant Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney General.• Collaborating and coordinating cross-government to implement the Victoria Early Resolution & Case Management Model and amend the court rules to improve Indigenous child welfare.• Drafting an MOU between the BCPSA and the Ministry of Attorney General.

Reported to the Union membership, lead the 6-member Executive Board, and oversaw the Union’s governance and operations including:• Serving as the primary spokesperson and signing authority for the $2.3 million non-profit organization.• Completing, in collaboration with the General Manager and Accounts Manager, a Request for Proposals for a health and dental plan provider.• Chairing the union’s By-Law & Policy Committee and its Strategic Planning Committee, during which a 3-year strategic plan for the union was developed.• Representing over 5000 students to the Board of Governors and its Finance Committee.• Leading non-partisan meetings with provincial and federal officials to advance well-researched policy solutions to post-secondary issues, including successfully lobbying the Government of Canada for a $90 million increase to the Post-Secondary Student Support Program for First Nations and eligible Inuit students.

Reported to the President & CEO and was responsible for serving as the liaison between the Union and government:• Representing students as the primary delegate to two advocacy organizations: Students Nova Scotia and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations.• Successfully lobbying the Government of Nova Scotia to increase the student assistance weekly loan limit from $180 to $200 per week.• Developing a policy proposal package which enables students, regardless of their level of political literacy, to submit policy stances to the Union for further research and possible adoption.• Organizing a Get Out the Vote campaign to mobilize student voters during the municipal election.• Establishing and chairing an External Affairs Advisory Committee which garnered grassroots feedback from students who were typically underrepresented by the Union.

Reported to the Board of Directors and was responsible for facilitating board operations and government relations, including:• Serving as the primary spokesperson and signing authority for the organization.• Building and enhancing relationships with stakeholders in the post-secondary education sector.• Writing press releases and policy position papers that conveyed complex information in an accessible manner to non-subject experts and people with ranging levels of literacy.• Coordinating with Nova Scotia Student Assistance to acquire well-researched data that would inform the organization’s policy recommendations and papers.• Working with the Executive Director to plan board conferences including an advocacy conference where the board met with 34 of 51 MLAs, relevant ministers, and sector stakeholders.
