Since 2008, when I obtained my Sound Engineering diploma, I have worked extensively in the South African music and entertainment industry. I began my professional career as an assistant sound engineer at a theatre known for showcasing outstanding music productions. At this point, I had already carved out a name for myself as a self-taught music producer, with a handful of songs receiving sparse radio airplay. It was this foray into producing that gave me a desire to learn more about the art of making radio-friendly music. As a result, I was compelled to apply to join the second ever Y-Academy, administered by YFM. I was granted a space into the coveted radio training ground and while there, excelled in technical production – including monitoring audio levels – and music compiling under the tutelage of the late DJ Monde. With a firm grasp of music compilation achieved, I used my education to delve into producing a variety of genres, which helped to fine-tune my ear to know what different South African audiences want to hear. Not only did this propel me to get more of my songs to become key complements to radio shows across the country but it also prepared me to join the Massiv Metro radio station. Here, I coordinated the music properties and helped to schedule and shape the sound of primary shows on air. In addition to radio, I have a keen interest in sound as a vehicle for storytelling on television and film and began my journey as a music consultant through my company, Promise Land Entertainment, last year.
