I head Biology Business Unit, managing (including traditional Research market) and Industrial Cell Culture. Job responsibilities include driving the biology sales and marketing through team of three specialists (PhDs) in research (bio) business and one Business Development Manager in SAFC (bio) business. The sales team with their Regional Managers continues to report (dotted line) and help in improving the sales of biology in addition to our other initiatives. One of my major responsibilities is consultative selling and updating the Research community with latest technologies from Sigma Aldrich. I manage projects for Biopharma and other industrial biotechnology customers. I also help bridge the gap between scientists and our R&D team for any collaborations. After leading Process Improvement programmes in biology sales from 2009-2011, I am now also part of the AIP (Advanced Improver Programme) of Sigma Aldrich.

As part of Sigma Aldrich (SIAL), I head the Research Biotech Business Unit for India. The job responsibilities include driving the sales and marketing activities through Application Specialists and Sales team for achieving the annual targets, liasioning between SIAL India and SIAL corporate for the BU, looking out for and validating the opportunities for collaborations, M&A, and managing the Sigma Custom Products laboratory. The challenges of people management added to understanding and promoting the new technologies in Biotechnology and managing the running of a laboratory keeps me motivated.sivaram.chintalapati@sial.com

I was involved in product promotion and managing the business of certain principle companies that Genetix Biotech catered in India.

Worked in the group of Werner Kuehlbrandt on Characterization of P-type ATPases biochemically and with EM. The research work involved over-expression of proton pump in Pichia pastoris and S. cerevisiae, and copper pump from Aquifex aeolicus in E.coli. rCopper pumps were purified in detergent and used for biochemical characterization and structural studies by 2D and 3D crytallography. The 2D crystallography studies resulted in an 8A membrane structure of one of the protein.

Worked in Dr. C.M.Gupta's laboratory on over-expression of Actin-binding proteins from Lieshmania in E. coli and Pichia methanolika.

I worked on down-stream processing of rHIV proteins, in the laboratory of Dr. Maruti Sai and Dr. Uma, in Diagnostics division. The job involved purification and characterization of 3 recombinant HIV proteins and assistance in development of a diagnostic kit.
