Rev. Dr. Sivin Kit is a Malaysian theologian who is currently serving as the Director of the Department for Theology, Mission and Justice with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Geneva. In this role, he oversees the LWF's work on global theological reflections, theological education, churches in the public space and holistic mission, transformative leadership, churches in emergency response and development work, gender justice, climate justice, peacebuilding, human rights, and advocacy.He has worked as a program executive for public theology and interreligious relations with the LWF earlier, where he was tasked with pursuing strategic theological questions and contributing in areas of religion in the public space, interreligious collaboration, and peacebuilding. Kit has also taught theology, ethics, homiletics, and religious studies at the Malaysia Theological Seminary (STM), where he was also the director of the Center for Religion and Society. He has published articles in the fields of public theology, Christian-Muslim relations, ecumenism, and interreligious relations in Southeast and East Asia. Kit holds a B.Th. and M.Th. from the South East Asia Graduate School of Theology, and he received his Ph.D. in religion, ethics, and society from the University of Agder, Norway. He is also an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church of Malaysia and was the founding pastor of the Bangsar Lutheran Church, Kuala Lumpur.His wider interests include contextual theology and religion and media. He has been blogging since 2002 at Sivin Kit's Garden and other online platforms, where he shares his reflections on theology, ministry, culture and society. He also enjoys creative writing, photography and music.Kit is an example of a Malaysian pastor who has expanded his horizons beyond his local context. Through his academic work, his involvement with LWF and other ecumenical bodies such as WCC (World Council of Churches), his engagement with interreligious dialogue partners such as KAICIID (King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious Dialogue) , his participation in social movements such as Bersih (Coalition for Clean Elections), his contribution to online media platforms such as the Nut Graph (an independent Malaysian journalistic website), he has demonstrated how theology can be relevant to contemporary issues facing humanity. Also, he is also a bridge-builder who fosters dialogue and cooperation among various religious traditions. He is dedicated to showing how faith can be relevant and transformative in today's world.
