Founder of Vitalea Science (with Dr. Le Vuong), in 2002, a bio-analytical contract research organization specializing in Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (AMS). I served a number of roles, as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Scientific Director and Board Member. The founders at Vitalea financed and installed the world’s most advanced AMS technology sourced from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and grew the business organically from 2 to 20 employees by 2012.The company was acquired in 2012 by Eckert & Ziegler of Berlin in a stock acquisition. I continued to stay on as Chief Science officer for 2 years after the acquisition. During my tenure as CSO I expanded our business relationships in Japan, Korea, and Europe, added carbon dating and biofuel analysis (with our AMS director) as secondary lines of revenue, and co-handled all sales with the director of business development.I exited 2 years post-acquisition to set up microtracer capacity in Korea. Korea now has a vibrant Phase 0 AMS capacity with over 5 AMS instruments installed in the Country, the highest density of AMS technology in the world. Subsequently, I led the next generation of radiocarbon detection technology, Cavity Ring Down Laser Spectroscopy, in collaboration with Silicon Valley. In 2018 I relocated to Korea and now serve as a consultant for a number of technology-based organizations, a business advisor for US-Asia B-to-B ventures.Currently, I am collaborating with ppqSense of Italy to optimize and market the SCAR laser-based 14C analyzer. This is the microdosing/microtracing platform of the future and will democratize access to ultal low level 14C analysis for sustainable material authentication and pharmaceutical tracer studies.
