Cto, Co-FounderDacs Laboratories Gmbh Sep 2015 - PresentThe DACS Laboratories GmbH focuses on the development of highly scaling application and data deployment technologies. The first vertical of DACS is ROCKIT which addresses the efficient deployment of large video games. After downloading only a fraction of the entire application image a game can be launched on the local hardware without experiencing any performance penalties while the remaining data continue downloading in background. Instead of waiting several hours ROCKIT can launch downloadable content after seconds or minutes.During my time as CEO at Gemmantics and head of the "Algorithm Design and Modeling" research group (see below) I created a strong interest in algorithms addressing deployment and scheduling problems. As CTO and Co-Founder of DACS I developed the core technology behind ROCKIT and implemented the proof-of-concept. I recruited our excellent teams of our technical department, i.e., the kernel core development, machine learning, IT service, and the QA / production team. As technical director I'm also in charge of translating complex technical contexts to our investors and partners. -
Ceo, FounderGemmantics It-Consulting May 2010 - Dec 2018ErkrathThe Gemmantics IT Consulting developed Hive, a highly scaling and fully decentralized server management solution to manage large-scale data and high-performance computing centers. Hive has been designed as cross-platform tool which can deploy tens of thousands of Linux and Windows servers within minutes. The idea of Hive was born when I realized the shortcomings of the available DevOps tools at the time I managed the HPC center at Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research. Therefore, I designed the decentralized concept of all contributing services, the network protocols, and the underlying management language based on the previously developed SxAccelerate framework. As CEO and Founder I hired the development team, conducted the go-to-market and built up the custom care service of Hive.

Head Of "Algorithm Design And Modeling" Research GroupMax Planck Institute For Iron Research Sep 2005 - Apr 2010DüsseldorfThe "Algorithm Design and Modeling" research group at the Max-Planck-Institute of Iron Research focussed on the development and application of the density functional theory program package S/PHI/nX. S/PHI/nX is one of the fastest ab-initio simulation packages for insulting and semiconducting systems but can be applied to a wide range of material classes. It is based on the SxAccelerate framework - a general purpose cross-platform high-performance C/C++ programming interface. A second important project of my research group was PHInaX - a workbench to conduct, analyze computations in the field of material science. PHInaX also simplified the collaboration of researchers by reutilizing data of previous calculations. As head of the research group I was responsible of designing the concept of our quantum-mechanical C++ framework S/PHI/nX and its foundation SxAccelerate. I recruited a team of dedicated young scientists with interests in high-performance computing, database programming, and interactive 3D-visualization. In short time both project could reach a productive state. They have been successfully applied to investigate a broad spectrum of material properties.

Head Of High Performance Computing CenterMax Planck Institute For Iron Research Sep 2005 - Apr 2010DüsseldorfThe High Performance Computing center provided the necessary compute and storage capacity of the Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research, in particular, the department for computational materials design. The cluster ranked in the Top-20 of Germany and Top-355 in the global competitive Top-500 list of the 500 fastest computers in the world. As head of the HPC center I was in charge of designing the concept of the machines, conducting various European call-for-tenders, launching and operating the cluster with a small team of system administrators belonging to my group.
