• Responsible engineer for providing Apparatus Engineering expertise on the design, operation and maintenance of capacitor banks and switch automation solutions used on SCE’s distribution system• Equipment assignments include:o Pole-mounted and pad-mounted capacitor banks: capacitor units, capacitor switches, programmable capacitor controllers, control power transformers, and bank fusingo Overhead, pad-mounted and underground line switch controllers and motor operators• Review and approve design changes and test reports supplied by manufacturers of assigned equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable SCE, IEEE and IEC standards and testing requirements• Develop and maintain distribution construction, maintenance and operation standards for capacitor banks and switch automation devices• Perform equipment teardowns of failed apparatus to determine root cause of failure and request corrective action from equipment suppliers• Primary point of contact for questions on assigned equipment related to operational issues, technical questions, construction standard compliance, and deviation review and approval• Support device testing and inspection with field crews to verify capacitor banks and switch controllers meet specifications and standards after installation• Serve on teams working to implement new distribution technologies, products and suppliers for use on SCE’s distribution system

• Lead physical design engineer on substation projects at voltages ranging from 4kV to 138kV, responsible for overall design quality and timely submittal of design package to client• Project experience includes: o 138/69/12kV, 90MVA autotransformer replacement o 138kV ring bus expansion, 138/12kV transformer addition, 12kV distribution bay addition o 138/12kV greenfield substation design, including 25MVA transformer and 12kV distribution bay• Field experience in approximately 140 substations, with visits involving an audit of equipment present in the yard and creation of a Network Block Diagram detailing equipment connectivity• Actively coordinate with project protection & controls (P&C) engineer to ensure physical design packages contains no discrepancies with respect to the P&C package• Selection and layout of equipment based on project specifications, ensuring correct phase identification and spacing, and proper clearance of energized equipment• Lightning protection studies performed with the rolling sphere and fixed angle methods to functionally eliminate possibility of equipment failure due to lightning strikes• Ground grid design including fault current analysis and ground potential rise (GPR) studies using CDEGS, and proper grounding of equipment, to ensure safe step and touch potentials for substation personnel• 3-D lighting design using Microsoft Visual Basic to provide adequate service and security lighting inside of substation yard, per client and NESC standards• Design optimized conduit plans that properly rout all power and control cables throughout yard and allow for minimal trenching to be done during construction, adding value by reducing labor costs• Creation and submittal of project bill of materials, specifying all equipment to be used in the construction of a design package• Perform comprehensive quality control review of all projects before submittal to client, ensuring a consistently high quality of work

• Assist District Engineer with improving district reliability, providing support for field workers, and ensuring safe, cost-effective operation of the District• Interface with individual customers experiencing electric service issues and coordinate with electric troubleshooters and crews to actively address customer complaints• Initiate proactive cable replacement projects with approved budgets of up to $100,000 to prevent service outages before they occur and improve circuit reliability• Develop SCADA initiative projects for problem circuits to improve their sectionalizing capability and minimize circuit SAIDI and SAIFI

• Team member responsible for testing, developing and implementing new technologies on the electric transmission & distribution system• Performed a top level analysis of SDGE’s entire distribution system and created a list of ideal circuits to be targeted by an advanced energy storage solution project with a projected budget of $5-7 million• Analyzed data using PI Interface to validate technical parameters of new technology at SDGE’s Borrego Substation Microgrid Yard
