From the thoughtful design of open space to the health effects of public utilities I am passionate about the impact Civil Engineering has on our everyday lives. I enjoy working on projects that improve communities and create connections between residents. This can be seen in my design of 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian pathway rehabilitation from Anchorage to Eagle River, Alaska or the many hours I have spent meeting with communities about connecting homes to water and sewer for the first time.Currently, I am working as a term limited employee for the Seattle Public Utilities, Sewer Rehabilitation group. I am excited to gain experience within the City of Seattle while working with such a dedicated group of public servants. I am committed to sustainable communities. By looking at each project as a part of the whole community I believe that we can find opportunities at each point between master planning and construction to reduce resource consumption and renew the environment. This requires stepping back from the details and seeing the impact of small decisions. For example, I see the way each roadway frontage improvement impacts an individual's ability to walk to the grocery store, bike to school or take the bus to work as well as in integral part of the regional roadway network. My career began building hydrologic and hydraulic models for the US Army Corps of Engineers and I carried that enthusiasm into the private sector. While working on residential, commercial and industrial land development projects in Colorado I developed a particular interest in integrating the form and function of stormwater design. These projects improved water quality through constructed wetlands and low impact development, reduced flood hazards and provided amenities to the local community.
