Pula is radically restructuring agricultural insurance, using technology to insure the previously unbanked, uninsured, untapped market of 1.5 billion smallholders worldwide against multiple climate risks. In 2020 alone, we facilitated crop and livestock insurance cover to 1.6 million farmers across Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Malawi, and have initiated pilot projects in Asia and Latin America. My responsibility is to develop and grow our partnerships across Asia, where over half of the global smallholder farmers reside. Since May 2023, I'm starting a new role within Pula to oversee our partnership with the World Food Program, as well as a number of other strategic social enterprises across Africa.

EMpower – The Emerging Markets Foundation was founded in 2000 by financial professionals in the emerging markets (EM) community who wanted to give back to the countries where they did business. Through grants and non-cash capacity building assistance, EMpower supports over 90 organizations in 15 EM countries globally. As Regional Officer for Asia during her tenure, Elise also served as Program Officer for China, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia, during which she increased the program portfolio grants investment from under $300,000 to close to US$1M to approximately 30 grantee partners across Asia.

Founded in 2004, GIFT provides executive education promoting a deeper understanding of the shift of influence from the West to Asia, the dynamic relationship between business, society and the state, and the reshaping of the rules of global capitalism.As social enterprise partnership manager, my main responsibility was to screen and evaluate NGO partners as potential GIFT leadership program partners.
