As a communication for social change specialist, media maker, and participatory media facilitator, I’ve always found it hard to fit in a box but instead thrived in between the lines and across disciplines. Compelled by the personal stories and collective wisdom that connect us all I always felt driven to explore different ideas, fresh angles and perspectives, experiment new methodologies, games, designs and tools to help make sense of this complex world and find creative ways to make it more just, inclusive and equitable. I spent the last 12 years in different parts of Sub-Saharan Africa supporting humanitarian and development organizations in health, protection, peacebuilding and community-engagement programming, digital communication and public advocacy. I conducted research on the power of community media, covered forgotten crises as well as underreported stories, and provided regional guidance on ethical content collection, informed consent processes, and responsible portrayal.In 2022, I began working as a freelance communication consultant in and out of Dakar and joined InsightShare's network of participatory media associates. The same year I conducted a series of pro-bono participatory media workshops in Mbeubeuss, one of West Africa’s largest open-air landfill where since the 1960’s thousands of people have sought their fortunes bearing witness to the growing disparities and precarities of urban modernity; and was selected to take part in ESODOC, an 8-month intensive European training in social documentary film development and production. Last July, I moved to Marseille, reuniting with the old continent after what seems like a lifetime.
