I have been working at Bootu Creek Manganese Mine for the last two years as a Safety Advisor/ Industrial Paramedic. As Safety Advisor, I provide a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety service across the site. This involves undertaking a wide range of duties to assess and minimise any hazards or potential risks to employees and stakeholders. Carrying out detailed risk assessments and site inspections is a fundamental part of the role. I have also lead investigations into accidents and near misses to determine the cause, and implemented measures to mitigate future risks. In addition to this, I am responsible for coordinating, training and assessing the Emergency Response Team at the mine. Ensuring the team works cohesively and effectively is of paramount importance to ensure response times are kept at an absolute minimum. I provide coaching and support for all my team members, and pride myself on providing an effective and reliable service.

In January 2009 I began working for Santos as an Emergency Services Officer. The position saw me working both autonomously and as part of a team to provide a professional, reliable Fire and Rescue service within the company and across southeast Queensland. I trained and mentored an outstanding Emergency Response team to perform at an exceptional level in the areas of: Fire Suppression, CABA, Hazmat, RCR, Vertical Rescue, and First Aid.

At BHP I was responsible for providing comprehensive Emergency Services to underground and surface process operations. This included Ambulance, Firefighting, Hazmat, Rescue Operations, Security and Medical services.In addition to this, I also performed fitness for work, and drug and alcohol tests on employees, as well as a range of duties centred in the underground and surface medical centres. Accurately testing and maintaining all of the emergency response equipment was also my responsibility.Staff training was an important part of my role. I trained site personnel in fire awareness and Firewatch, as well as providing complete, ongoing training to the Emergency Response team.I also carried out static, mobile and watchroom security duties including emergency call receipt and dispatch.

My role at Clifford & Co. was similar in scope and level of responsibility as my position with BHP. I carried out numerous Emergency Services and training tasks, always maintaining a high level of awareness, accuracy, and attention to detail.
