About Stuart Graham

Dr. Stuart Graham is Associate Professor and Area Chair of the Strategy & Innovation management group at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, Georgia, USA). He teaches and conducts research on business strategy and competition, intellectual property strategy, the economics and policy of patent systems, and technology entrepreneurship. He received his PhD from the University of California (Berkeley) and holds other advanced degrees in Law (JD), Business (MBA), and Information Systems (MA). Dr. Graham's scholarship has been published in leading publications including the journal Science, the MIT Sloan Management Review, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, Management Science, and the Stanford Technology Law Review, and he is a Co-Editor of the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy. During 2010-2013, Dr. Graham served on the Executive Committee at the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). Appointed as the USPTO's (first ever) Chief Economist, he created and managed a team of professional economists to study the US innovation system and helped steer economic policy. He has testified on patent-system economics to the US Congress and the US Federal Trade Commission, and has served as an economic expert to the World Economic Forum, the European Commission, the Japan Fair Trade Commission, the European Patent Office, Industry Canada, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He sits on the Board for the European Policy on Intellectual Property (EPIP) initiative, and was honored in 2005 to be named a Gottfried Leibniz Fellow in Industrial Economics in Germany (the Blue List). Dr. Graham is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in New York State (US).Specialties: Corporate Strategy and Industrial Competitiveness.The Economics and Policy of Intellectual Property Systems.Technology Commercialization and Entrepreneurship.
