I am a college professor who works at the intersection of the ancient world and digital technology. I teach classes on ancient languages and my research ranges from traditional philology to Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.The computer languages I work with most often are Python, PHP, XML (and associated languages), RDF, and LaTeX. I have over 20 years of experience building and managing websites using a variety of applications, from static HTML to PHP/MySQL-based content management systems such as ExpressionEngine, Drupal (6, 7, 8, 9, and 10), and WordPress. I also have experience managing servers running Ubuntu, CentOS, and FreeBSD. Recently, I have performed full content migrations from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8/9 for two organizations.Over the past year, I have built considerable experience with prompt engineering while designing exercises for students and building applications for data analysis in the research and service components of my faculty position. I am eager to keep developing this skill, and I would enjoy collaborating with others in this area.My main project is the Digital Latin Library, which has support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Society for Classical Studies, the Medieval Academy of America, and the Renaissance Society of America. I am also the Information Architect for the Society for Classical Studies. In that position, I build, maintain, and provide technical support for that organization's digital initiatives.As chair of the Department of Classics and Letters at the University of Oklahoma from 2009 to 2019, I led an interdisciplinary academic department in the humanities with 16 full-time faculty members and over 200 undergraduate majors. I developed policies and procedures, managed funding from public and private sources, and represented the department at the university's administrative level.
