With over two decades of experience in research science, policy, and philanthropy, I am a passionate and visionary leader who works to have an impact by helping philanthropists give their money away well. As the President and Principal Advisor at SJL Advising, I provide executive-level purpose discovery coaching, philanthropy advising, and strategy consulting services for high-net-wealth and ultra-high-net-wealth individuals, family offices, foundations, and corporations at the intersection of philanthropy, society, and science. I have built and led inclusive and impactful programs at three philanthropic organizations: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Walder Foundation, and Paul G. Allen's at Vulcan, Inc. with responsibility for annual budgets of $10M - $100M. I have national and global cross-sector experience spanning the 30 - 30,000-foot view from field research in 13 countries, laboratory science, strategic philanthropy, and international policy (Obama Administration) working with governments, academia, non-profit, and private sector institutions. I also serve as a subject matter expert in science philanthropy for Untraditional Philanthropy and as a mentor and coach for emerging leaders in the field.
