I am deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in healthcare and utilizing technology meaningfully to improve people's health, aiming for transformative impacts on lives.My academic journey was shaped by the convergence of engineering and science during my undergraduate studies at MIT. This path continued as I pursued a Doctorate in the MIT/Harvard Medical School Health Science and Technology (HST) program, under the mentorship of Dr. Joseph Paradiso at the MIT Media Lab. My manuscript from my dissertation titled "Gait analysis using a shoe-integrated wireless sensor system" received the IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine Outstanding Paper Award in 2012, and has also amassed over 900 citations, showcasing my work’s enduring impact on the field of wearable devices for the analysis of walking and movement.During my tenure as a faculty member at the University of Utah, I dedicated myself to providing students with hands-on learning experiences and innovative bioinstrumentation research. This commitment materialized in numerous teaching awards, Senior Membership in the IEEE, and six issued patents. In 2012, I was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor.Venturing into entrepreneurship and fundraising, I founded Veristride in 2011 with the goal of advancing shoe-worn sensors for real-time stride analysis, and I joined full-time as CEO in 2014. The subsequent validation of positive outcomes and cost effectiveness resulted in over $1.1 million in multiple NSF and NIH grants, as well as a Series-A round of fundraising.In 2020, Moterum recognized the potential of Veristride's technology, and acquired my company. This strategic alignment seamlessly fused Veristride's sensor technologies with Moterum's dedication to providing rehabilitation devices and app-based exercise programs, particularly for stroke survivors and other neuro-rehabilitation patients. I transitioned into the role of Chief Science Officer, where I continue to spearhead innovations in rehabilitation technologies.
