I work in Women's Services which consists of the Post Partum Unit, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics and the NICU. I basically work Post Partum, but fill in on the other units as needed.CNA duties consist of taking and electronically charting vital signs, first baby baths including weights and temperature regulation before and after the bath. Educating new mothers about perineal hygiene, activity, caring for a newborn including choking prevention. Assisting in circumcisions, performing "tandem" Newborn Hearing Screens, stocking and setting up rooms, cleaning medical equipment. Assist the Nursing staff with duties legally required. Unit Clerk duties include electronically entering Physician orders, updating pt census frequently, entering pt charges,preparing pts for discharge, contacting other departments for procedures or information, setting up and breaking down pt charts, ordering all utilized forms, calculating and forwarding pt statistical information, contacting physician's, set up consults with specialists, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, updating and checking the functioning and accuracy of our BABY SECURITY SYSTEM and practicing protocol for ALL ALERTS.THE SAFETY OF OUR PATIENTS IS TOP PRIORITY!

I maintained all patient bedside carts with supplies, changing suction canisters, followed protocol for cleaning and replacing carts from patients that were on precautions. Sterilized intubation tools. Cleaned, bagged and stocked med pumps and other HP monitoring equipment.I was responsible for ordering outside orders of cardiac catheters, trocars and other special order supplies.I was also trained by the Lead Cardiac O.R. Nurse in setting up and maintaining sterile fields for emergency procedures performed on The Unit.(including thoracotomy and ECMO procedures.)As Unit Secretary, I was responsible for contacting Physicians for the Nursing staff or Physicians and Surgical staff for emergency procedures. Responsible for checking each patient on my shift for accuracy in name, Physician, D.O.B. and room.
