After graduating with a PhD in theoretical physics(*) in 2002 I moved to applied research. For the first 3 years I worked with reservoir simulations at SINTEF Petroleum Research. The main focus was oil field development planning for a number of Iranian oil fields and simulations of CO2 storage in aquifers.Thereafter I moved to SINTEF Materials & Chemistry and has worked with multi-phase flow. The main work has been on development of a simulator for multi-phase in pipe-lines (LedaFlow), but I have also been involved in several projects using commercial Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD) simulators (ANSYS Fluent) to simulate phenomena such as: Sewage flow, Dispersion of oil spillage films on water, Oil-water separation, Cement injection to prevent water leakage into tunnels. In the LedaFlow project my main task has been implementation of multi-dimensional models (Quasi-3D, CFD) specially adapted to flow phenomena occurring for multi-phase flow in pipes. This work has involved model development, code implementation, verification and validation. The main outcome is a fully functional Quasi-3D simulator that has been presented at several conferences and papers. In addition I have been involved in the 1D code development that has been commercialized (www.ledaflow.com).(*) In my PhD studies I worked with theoretical understanding of Superconductivity. The main focus was on statistical mechanics to understand phase transitions and critical phenomena applying Monte-Carlo simulations. In addition I worked with quantum mechanics to get a better understanding of details related to superconductivity in strong magnetic fields.
