Student Software Developer
Student Assistent Pattern Recognition
Student Assistant Pattern Recognition
Course description: The course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of pattern recognition. It is the research area that studies the design and operation of systems that detect, identify, recognise or classify patterns in data. Important application domains are image analysis (e.g. licence plate recognition or various medical applications), computer vision, speech analysis, man and machine diagnostics, person identification (e.g. by iris or fingerprint), spam filtering, industrial inspection, financial data analysis and forecast, genetics. Generally, pattern recognition includes techniques such as feature extraction, classification, and error estimation. The course presents various classification techniques, e.g. k-nn, LVQ, SVM, decision tree, and clustering techniques, e.g. k-means, VQ, dendrogram, gap statistics. Various applications are presented throughout the course.
Student Assistant Software Analysis And Design
Course description: This module deals with the development of software with the help of the so-called Unified Process (UP) method. The first lectures will largely deal with analysis according to the UP, including the required UML notation, and the question of how requirements can be deduced from an assignment. Subsequently, design according to the UP will be discussed. A separate lecture will be devoted to Design Patterns (using the book by Gamma et al.) and will pay attention to the ‘design by contract' principle (including an introduction to the OCL). The final lecture will deal with the subject of how to work on a large-scale assignment by working in a project, and how to use the methods and techniques mentioned above to design a well functioning implementation.
Student Assistent Imperative Programming
This module aims to make a start on developing skills to progress from an informal research question to a correct program. In addition to the syntax and semantics of several C constructions, special attention will be paid to problem-solving: how to convert a research question into an algorithm/program in C.
Student Assistant Object Oriented Programming
Following the modules Imperative Programming and Algorithms and Data Structures, this module makes up the wide-ranging introduction to object-oriented programming. In Imperative Programming, objects were discussed, but only as mechanisms to cluster data that belong together, together with operators for them. This module will concentrate more on the object-oriented aspects of Java: inheritance, polymorphism, generics, and annotations. We will also cover more advanced topics of Java: exception handling, IO operations, logging, and reflection. In addition, we will examine how to increase Java developer's productivity by using available open source tools.
