I have been exceedingly lucky in my work life in that there have been few times where I have been unemployed for too long. I started on my journey in the Keystone state of Pennsylvania. After working through college courses for Business Management and Sales and Marketing (did not complete AS but am still hopeful that will happen) I worked for an Insurance Agency as the Office Manager and in house Property & Casualty Agent. I took this knowledge and began honing my skills as a bookkeeper/accounting assistant and in one capacity or another continued on this path for several years. When I moved to Charleston, SC I landed a job with Lane Construction where I stayed for about five years as a site buyer and office manager. My last assignment with Lane was for the Federal Highway Administration and the Parks Service in Tennessee working on the Smokey Mountain Parkway Project. Smokey Mountain Parkway was my first experience with a government project and the procedures of doing business with the Federal government as well as FAR & ARRA requirements. Unfortunately, due to a fault line located within the work zone, FHWA was forced to make some tough decisions as to whether to continue or not and during that time I got laid off. The last 5+ years have been with Fluor Enterprises Inc. where I have switched careers and trained in the Contract Management discipline. Between taking courses and mentoring with some fine Contract Administrators. I have learned a great deal about Contract Management and am currently Administering my own contracts. Which brings us to the present day. The construction field is always working themselves out of a job and so goes the story. I am not exactly sure where the wind will blow me next, but I have faith that there is another opportunity out there somewhere and it will be with a great bunch of people!
